The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued a yellow alert for extreme cold for this Monday, August 24, affecting four provinces. This warning indicates the possibility of mild to moderate health effects on the population.
The provinces under yellow alert include Buenos Aires, the southeast of Entre Ríos, the west of Santa Cruz, and Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and South Atlantic Islands, especially in the Falkland Islands. According to the SMN, temperatures in this range “can be dangerous, especially for at-risk groups, such as children, people over 65 years old, and those with chronic illnesses.”
In light of this situation, the SMN recommends avoiding prolonged exposure to cold and, if it is necessary to go out, to dress in several layers of light clothing. Additionally, it suggests keeping the home safely heated, generating body heat through movement, staying hydrated, abstaining from alcoholic beverages, and paying special attention to vulnerable groups, including children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses. In case of adverse effects due to low temperatures, it is advised not to self-medicate and to consult a doctor or go to the nearest health center.
Regarding the forecast for the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA), the SMN estimates a temperature that will range between 5°C and 13°C. A somewhat cloudy sky is expected in the morning, partially cloudy at noon, and returning to somewhat cloudy in the afternoon and night. Winds of up to 22 kilometers per hour are anticipated at noon and during the night. A slight increase in temperature is expected for Tuesday, with the sky changing from partially cloudy during the day to mostly cloudy at night.
In the province of Buenos Aires, a temperature range of 1°C to 12°C is forecasted, with similar conditions to the AMBA. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, a gradual increase in temperatures is predicted, with no precipitation expected until Thursday, when showers may occur in the first half of the day.
For the rest of the country, the SMN has published the following forecasts: in Córdoba, a minimum of 7°C and a maximum of 18°C; in Tucumán, from 10°C to 23°C; in Santa Fe, from 7°C to 16°C; in Entre Ríos, from 5°C to 16°C; in Jujuy, from 9°C to 18°C; in Salta, from 9°C to 20°C; in Misiones, from 8°C to 20°C; and in La Rioja, from 7°C to 19°C.
