Route 517 is a Red Movilidad bus (locally, a micro) in the system formerly called Transantiago, linking western Santiago with Peñalolén through the centre and the eastern part of the city. It starts on Av. José Joaquín Pérez, in Pudahuel, crosses the centre via Av. Mapocho and Plaza Italia and continues along Carlos Antúnez, Av. Cristóbal Colón and Av. Larraín to Av. José Arrieta. According to DTPM’s current operating schedule (October 2026), the outbound trip is 28.4 km long and has 93 bus stops. Since 30 August 2025 it has been run by Voy Santiago 15, which took it over from Metbus.

Route 517: from J. J. Pérez to Peñalolén

Av. José Joaquín Pérez. The 517 leaves from Av. José J. Pérez and Rolando Petersen and runs east along that avenue, crossing Av. San Daniel, Av. Teniente Cruz, Avenida Las Torres, Neptuno, Las Rejas and Radal, with stops at the Escuela San Damián de Molokai and the Escuela Insigne Gabriela Mistral, as far as Tropezón.

Av. Mapocho and the centre. From Tropezón it continues along Avenida Mapocho, with bus stops at Matucana, Población Mapocho, Ricardo Cumming and Almirante Barroso, and reaches the Hospital Traumatológico and Estación Mapocho. In the centre it passes Santo Domingo, Merced and the Parque Forestal on its way to Plaza Italia.

Salvador to Carlos Antúnez. After Plaza Italia it passes the Museo de Los Tajamares, the Parque Balmaceda and the Salvador, Manuel Montt and Pedro de Valdivia stations, and takes Carlos Antúnez east, crossing Av. Ricardo Lyon, Av. Los Leones and Av. El Bosque up to Av. Tobalaba.

Cristóbal Colón and Tomás Moro. At Cristóbal Colón station it enters Av. Cristóbal Colón, which it follows to the Rotonda Atenas, crossing Américo Vespucio, Manquehue and Hernando de Magallanes. It then takes Av. Tomás Moro to the Rotonda Tomás Moro.

Príncipe de Gales, Larraín and José Arrieta. The last stretch runs along Alcalde M. de la Lastra, Salvador Izquierdo, Av. Príncipe de Gales, V. Pérez Rosales and Avenida Larraín, where it passes the Aeródromo Tobalaba and the Hospital Militar. Via Diputada Laura Rodríguez it reaches Av. José Arrieta and ends at the corner with Quebrada de Camarones.

On the return trip the 517 starts at Río Claro and Valle Hermoso and uses different streets in the east and in the centre: it comes back along Avenida Eliodoro Yáñez, passing the Municipalidad de Providencia, and in the centre via Bellas Artes station, the Mercado Central and Avenida Andes. It ends at Av. José J. Pérez and Avenida La Estrella.

Route 517 timetable

According to DTPM’s current operating schedule (October 2026), the 517 runs every day between 05:30 and midnight. On a weekday there are about 69 departures towards Peñalolén; on Saturday about 55 and on Sunday about 46.

On weekdays it comes roughly every 11 minutes in the morning peak and every 10 minutes between 16:30 and 18:30. For the rest of the day the interval is 13 to 15 minutes; at weekends, 13 to 22 minutes. From 20:30 the frequency drops: every 30 minutes until 22:00 on weekdays and then every 60 minutes until midnight.

The 517 has no departures between midnight and 05:30. On Sunday, in addition, the first morning slot, between 05:30 and 07:30, has a bus roughly every 60 minutes.

⚠️ Keep in mind: after 22:00 the 517 leaves only once an hour. If you are travelling at night, check the predictor before going to the bus stop.

How long the 517 takes

According to the operating schedule, the full outbound trip takes about 128 minutes for 28.4 km, a little over two hours. Traffic on Av. Mapocho, in the centre and on the Salvador–Pedro de Valdivia axis has a big effect on the real time. For partial trips, the App Red trip planner gives a closer estimate.

Bus stops and Metro connections

In the direction of Peñalolén the 517 has bus stops at Salvador, Manuel Montt, Pedro de Valdivia and Cristóbal Colón stations. On the way back it passes Cristóbal Colón and Bellas Artes. In the centre it also has bus stops at Estación Mapocho and Plaza Italia. To transfer, tap your bip! within 120 minutes of your first tap.

How to see where the 517 bus is

The App Red, Red Movilidad’s free official app, has a predictor that shows how long until each bus reaches your stop. On red.cl, the “¿Cuándo llega?” option works the same way: type in the bus stop code and you will see the next buses. The code is on the sign at each bus stop and starts with P, a letter and a number. With intervals of up to an hour at night, it is always worth checking before you leave.

Fare and tarjeta bip!

The adult bus fare is CLP 795 at any time of day, in force since 22 February 2026. Secondary and higher-education students with a TNE pay CLP 260, primary-school pupils ride free and seniors with a bip! Adulto Mayor card pay CLP 390. You can pay with the tarjeta bip! or with bip!QR from the App Red.

A single payment gives you up to two transfers (three legs) within 120 minutes of your first tap, as long as you do not repeat the same bus route. There is no extra charge between buses; if you combine with the Metro, the total rises to CLP 895 in peak hours and CLP 815 in off-peak hours.

Tips for riding the 517

  • If you are going to the Hospital Militar from the west or the centre, the 517 takes you there without a transfer.
  • In the east the outbound trip runs along Carlos Antúnez and the return along Eliodoro Yáñez: check the map to choose your bus stop.
  • At night it comes once an hour and there is no early-morning service: plan your trip back with the App Red.
  • Check your balance on tarjetabip.cl or in the App Red before going to the bus stop.
