Route 401 is one of the Red Movilidad buses (locally, micros), in the system formerly called Transantiago, that cross the whole of Santiago from west to east. It leaves Terminal Las Acacias, in Maipú, runs along Av. Los Pajaritos and the entire Alameda, passes Plaza Italia and continues along Av. Apoquindo to Vital Apoquindo, in Las Condes. According to DTPM’s current operating schedule (October 2026), the outbound trip is 37.2 km long, has 98 bus stops and the service runs 24 hours a day. Since 17 May 2025 it has been run by Voy Santiago 14.

Route 401: from Maipú to Las Condes

Maipú. The 401 starts at Terminal Las Acacias, takes Avenida Portales and La Galaxia and continues along Av. Nueva San Martín, where it passes Boston College and crosses Av. Las Naciones and Ramón Barros Luco. On reaching Av. Los Pajaritos it turns east and passes Plaza de Maipú station.

Av. Los Pajaritos. The next stretch runs along Pajaritos, with numbered stops (from paradero 14 to 4) and next to the Santiago Bueras, Del Sol, Monte Tabor and Las Parcelas stations, as well as the Colegio Santa María de Maipú.

The Alameda. From Las Rejas the 401 continues along the Alameda and stops next to almost every station on that axis: Las Rejas, Ecuador, San Alberto Hurtado, Universidad de Santiago, Estación Central, Unión Latinoamericana, República, Los Héroes, La Moneda, Universidad de Chile, Santa Lucía and Universidad Católica, up to Plaza Italia.

Plaza Italia to Escuela Militar. After Plaza Italia it passes the Museo de Los Tajamares, the Parque Balmaceda and the Salvador, Manuel Montt, Pedro de Valdivia, Los Leones, Tobalaba, El Golf and Alcántara stations. Next to the Municipalidad de Las Condes, Cerro Navidad and Escuela Militar station it enters Avenida Apoquindo.

Apoquindo, Tomás Moro and Vital Apoquindo. Along Av. Apoquindo it passes Manquehue, the Estadio Italiano and Hernando de Magallanes, then turns onto Av. Tomás Moro and Alejandro Fleming, with stops at the Clínica Cordillera and the Plaza María Luisa Bombal. The last stretch runs along Av. Paul Harris and Vital Apoquindo, next to the CESFAM Aníbal Ariztía and the Hospital Dipreca, to Av. Francisco Bilbao.

On the way back to Maipú the 401 follows the same central axis, but in Maipú it enters via Nueva O’Higgins and Santa Elena and reaches the terminal along Av. El Conquistador.

Route 401 services and variants

Besides the main service there is the 401c, a short service between Escuela Militar station and Vital Apoquindo. It is 9.9 km long, takes about 43 minutes and only runs Monday to Friday, between 06:30 and 22:00, with about 12 departures a day. Departures are concentrated in the morning and afternoon peaks, at 30-minute intervals in the busiest hours. It is useful if you arrive by Metro at Escuela Militar and are heading on to Tomás Moro or Vital Apoquindo. The 401c is run by RBU, not Voy Santiago.

Route 401 timetable

According to DTPM’s current operating schedule (October 2026), the 401 runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. On a weekday there are about 123 departures towards Las Condes; on Saturday about 96 and on Sunday about 87.

The highest frequency towards Las Condes is in the morning peak, with a bus roughly every 5 minutes between 06:30 and 08:00. Towards Maipú, the highest frequency is in the afternoon, also every 5 minutes, between 16:30 and 18:30. After 22:00 the interval rises to about 13 to 24 minutes, depending on the day and direction.

In the early morning, between 01:00 and 05:30, the 401 keeps running: on weekdays, roughly every 22 minutes towards Las Condes and every 30 minutes towards Maipú. At weekends the early-morning intervals are similar, between 24 and 30 minutes.

How long the 401 takes

According to the operating schedule, the full trip from Maipú to Las Condes takes about 99 minutes for 37.2 km. In practice the time depends a lot on the Alameda and Av. Apoquindo during peak hours. If your destination is near a station, combining with the Metro can be faster; for trips within the same area, the 401 is usually a good direct option.

Bus stops and Metro connections

The 401 is one of the buses with the most Metro connections: it has bus stops at Plaza de Maipú, Santiago Bueras, Del Sol, Monte Tabor, Las Parcelas, Las Rejas, Ecuador, San Alberto Hurtado, Universidad de Santiago, Estación Central, Unión Latinoamericana, República, Los Héroes, La Moneda, Universidad de Chile, Santa Lucía, Universidad Católica, Salvador, Manuel Montt, Pedro de Valdivia, Los Leones, Tobalaba, El Golf, Alcántara, Escuela Militar, Manquehue and Hernando de Magallanes. To transfer, tap your bip! within 120 minutes of boarding the bus.

🚌

Terminal Las Acacias (Maipú)

Western terminus of the 401, at Av. Portales and Av. El Conquistador. From here the bus heads off towards Av. Nueva San Martín.

🚉

Escuela Militar

A 401 bus stop and the starting point of the 401c. Here the bus leaves the Metro axis and enters Av. Apoquindo.

🏥

Vital Apoquindo

Eastern end, next to the Hospital Dipreca and the CESFAM Aníbal Ariztía, up to Av. Francisco Bilbao.

How to see where the 401 bus is

The App Red, Red Movilidad’s free official app, has a predictor that shows how long until each bus reaches your stop, plus a trip planner for bus and Metro. On red.cl, the “¿Cuándo llega?” option does the same: you type in the bus stop code and see the next buses. The code is on the bus stop sign and starts with P, a letter and a number. At night, when buses come every 20 to 30 minutes, it is worth checking before you leave.

Fare and tarjeta bip!

The adult bus fare is CLP 795 at any time of day, in force since 22 February 2026. Secondary and higher-education students with a TNE pay CLP 260, primary-school pupils ride free and seniors with a bip! Adulto Mayor card pay CLP 390. You pay with the tarjeta bip! or with bip!QR from the App Red.

A single payment gives you up to two transfers (three legs) within 120 minutes of your first tap, as long as you do not repeat the same bus route. There is no extra charge between buses; if you combine with the Metro, the total rises to CLP 895 in peak hours and CLP 815 in off-peak hours.

Tips for riding the 401

  • If you are only going between Escuela Militar and Vital Apoquindo on a weekday, the 401c works too.
  • For long trips at peak times, consider combining with the Metro on the Alameda: the full trip by bus takes more than an hour and a half.
  • In the early morning the 401 keeps running, but at 20- to 30-minute intervals: check the predictor before you leave.
  • Check your balance on tarjetabip.cl or in the App Red before going to the bus stop.
