Route 405 is one of the longest and busiest buses in Santiago (locally called a “micro”): it links Terminal Las Acacias, in Maipú, with Cantagallo, in the upper part of Las Condes, crossing the city from west to east along the Alameda. It is a Red Movilidad service, the system formerly known as Transantiago, and measures 35.9 km from end to end. In the 2025 ranking of the most used services published by Red, the 405 came 14th, with an average of 17,321 transactions per weekday between January and November. Here is what the route looks like, its timetable, how long it takes and how to find out where the bus is.

Route 405: from Maipú to Cantagallo

The 405 starts at Terminal Las Acacias and runs along Avenida Portales through inner Maipú, with stops such as the Liceo Nacional Maipú and the junctions with Av. Las Naciones, Av. El Olimpo and Padre Hurtado. At Av. Los Pajaritos it turns towards the centre of the district (comuna) and passes Plaza de Maipú.

It then takes Avenida Los Pajaritos eastwards, following the avenue’s bus stop numbering (14 down to 4) and the Santiago Bueras, Del Sol, Monte Tabor and Las Parcelas stations. On reaching the Alameda, at Las Rejas, the 405 continues along the city’s central axis: Ecuador, San Alberto Hurtado, Universidad de Santiago, Estación Central, Unión Latinoamericana, República, Los Héroes, La Moneda, Universidad de Chile, Santa Lucía and Universidad Católica, up to Plaza Italia.

From Plaza Italia it continues through Providencia, alongside Parque Balmaceda and the Torres de Tajamar, with stops at Salvador, Manuel Montt, Pedro de Valdivia, Los Leones and Tobalaba. It then heads up Avenida Vitacura: La Portada de Vitacura, Alonso de Córdova, Plaza Lo Castillo, the junction with Américo Vespucio, Estadio Manquehue, Clínica Alemana, Rotonda Irene Frei and Los Cobres de Vitacura. The final stretch runs along Av. Tabancura, Nudo Estoril and Av. Las Condes, with stops such as the Universidad del Pacífico, ending at Nueva Las Condes and San Francisco de Asís, in Cantagallo.

The return trip follows almost the same path in the opposite direction. The differences are at the ends: in Las Condes it passes Homecenter Las Condes, and in Maipú it enters the terminal via La Galaxia, Avenida Sur and Av. El Conquistador.

405 services and variants

Besides the regular 405, the DTPM schedule includes the 405c, a short service running Plaza Italia – Cantagallo. In the current version of the schedule (October 2026) the 405c has no scheduled departures on any type of day. If you see a 405c on the sign, check the destination: it does not go to Maipú.

Route 405 timetable

The 405 runs 24 hours a day, Monday to Sunday, according to the current DTPM operating schedule (October 2026). On weekdays the schedule provides for about 134 departures, on Saturday about 116 and on Sunday about 102. A 24-hour service does not mean it runs at the same frequency: in the early hours the intervals are much longer than during the day.

In the morning peak, between 07:00 and 09:00 on a weekday, the shortest scheduled interval is 4 minutes. The timetable on this page shows the first and last departure and the number of departures by type of day.

How long the 405 takes

According to the operating schedule, a full outbound trip, from Maipú to Cantagallo, has a scheduled time of 117 minutes for 35.9 km. This is a reference time: in peak hours or in the rain the trip can take longer. If you are only going from Maipú to the centre or from the centre to Providencia, it is best to work out your stretch with the journey planner in the App Red or on red.cl.

Bus stops and Metro connections

The 405 has 95 stops outbound and 94 on the return, and passes 22 Metro stations, making it easy to transfer at almost any point along the way. In Maipú: Plaza de Maipú, Santiago Bueras, Del Sol, Monte Tabor and Las Parcelas. On the Alameda: Las Rejas, Ecuador, San Alberto Hurtado, Universidad de Santiago, Estación Central, Unión Latinoamericana, República, Los Héroes, La Moneda, Universidad de Chile, Santa Lucía and Universidad Católica. In Providencia: Salvador, Manuel Montt, Pedro de Valdivia, Los Leones and Tobalaba. East of Tobalaba there are no more stations on the route.

🚌

Terminal Las Acacias (Maipú)

Western terminus of the 405, on Avenida Portales. From here the bus sets off towards Pajaritos and the Alameda.

🚉

Metro Plaza de Maipú

First Metro station on the route, in central Maipú. A key transfer point if you are coming from inner parts of the district.

🚉

Metro Tobalaba

Last Metro station before the 405 heads up Avenida Vitacura towards Cantagallo.

How to find out where the 405 bus is

To see how long until the next 405, use the App Red (listed in the app stores as “Red Metropolitana de Movilidad”), which is free and has an arrival predictor for every bus stop (paradero). You can also go to red.cl and use “¿Cuándo llega?”. In both cases you need the bus stop code, printed on the stop sign: it starts with P, followed by a zone letter and a number, such as PI1857, a 405 stop in Maipú. The App Red also has a journey planner that combines buses, Metro and Tren Nos.

Fare and tarjeta bip!

Since 22 February 2026 the adult fare on Red buses is CLP 795, the same at any time of day. Secondary and higher-education students pay CLP 260 with their TNE, primary school pupils ride free and seniors with the tarjeta bip! Adulto Mayor pay CLP 390. You can pay with the tarjeta bip! (it costs CLP 1,550) or with bip!QR from the App Red and other apps.

A single payment covers up to two transfers (three legs) within 120 minutes of the first validation, as long as you do not repeat the same bus route. There is no extra charge between buses; if you transfer from the 405 to the Metro during peak hours, you pay the difference up to CLP 895. Always validate when you board: the 120 minutes count from the first validation.

Tips for travelling on the 405

  • If you are going from Maipú to the centre, the 405 runs along the Alameda next to the Metro line, so you can switch at Las Rejas or Estación Central if the bus is very full.
  • For long trips, such as Maipú – Vitacura, allow about two hours according to the schedule, and more in peak hours.
  • At night, check the App Red to see how long the wait is before you leave: the service runs 24 hours, but with fewer departures.
  • Check the sign: the 405c does not go to Maipú, it ends at Plaza Italia.
