Route 406 was the most used bus service in Santiago in 2025: according to the ranking published by Red, it came first with an average of 28,981 transactions per weekday between January and November. It links Pudahuel, in the west, with Cantagallo, in Las Condes, crossing the city along Av. San Pablo, the Alameda and Av. Apoquindo, over 30.8 km. It is a Red Movilidad service, the system formerly known as Transantiago, run by Metbus. Since 10 January 2026 the route has been extended to the Las Palmas terminal, in Pudahuel. Route 406: from Pudahuel to Cantagallo
Pudahuel and Lo Prado. The 406 starts at Río Clarillo and Río Trancura, continues along Av. J. M. Guzmán Riesco and takes Avenida San Pablo eastwards. On this stretch it passes the Consultorio Pudahuel Poniente, the Municipalidad de Pudahuel, Pudahuel station, Villa Los Maitenes, San Pablo station, the Municipalidad de Lo Prado and Lo Prado station. It continues along San Pablo to Blanqueado, Plaza Simón Bolívar, Gruta de Lourdes station and the Basílica de Lourdes.
Matucana and the Alameda. At Matucana it turns south, passes Quinta Normal station and the Hospital San Juan de Dios, and via Chacabuco reaches Estación Central station. From there it runs along the Alameda: Unión Latinoamericana, República, Los Héroes, La Moneda, Universidad de Chile, Santa Lucía and Universidad Católica, up to Plaza Italia.
Providencia and Las Condes. It passes the Museo de Los Tajamares, Parque Balmaceda and the Torres de Tajamar, with stops at Salvador, Manuel Montt, Pedro de Valdivia, Los Leones and Tobalaba. It continues via El Golf, the Municipalidad de Las Condes, Alcántara and Escuela Militar, and along Avenida Apoquindo to Manquehue station. The last stretch runs along Avenida Las Condes: Estadio Israelita Maccabi, Hospital FACH, the junction with Av. Pdte. Kennedy, Nudo Estoril and the Universidad del Pacífico, up to Nueva Las Condes and San Francisco de Asís.
The return trip is similar, with two changes: in Providencia it passes Avenida Providencia and Eliodoro Yáñez, and between Matucana and Plaza Simón Bolívar it runs along Martínez de Rozas and Santa Genoveva instead of Av. San Pablo.
406 services and variants
The 406c is a short loop that does not reach Pudahuel. It leaves Metro Escuela Militar, goes up Av. Apoquindo and Av. Las Condes, continues along Avenida La Dehesa (Portal La Dehesa) to El Rodeo and Av. José Alcalde Délano, and returns along the same axis to Escuela Militar. It is 27.0 km long and its scheduled time is 92 minutes. It runs Monday to Friday from 06:30 to 20:30 (about 46 departures, at least every 8 minutes in peak hours) and on Saturday from 06:30 to 12:00. It does not run on Sunday.
Route 406 timetable
According to the current DTPM operating schedule (October 2026), from Monday to Friday the 406 has its first departure at 01:00 and its last at 24:00, with about 151 departures. On Saturday it keeps the same window, but with about 85 departures. On Sunday it runs from 05:30 to 24:00, with about 62 departures. If you are travelling in the early hours, check the App Red before you leave.
In the morning peak (07:00 to 09:00) on a weekday, the shortest scheduled interval is 4 minutes.
How long the 406 takes
According to the operating schedule, a full outbound trip, from Pudahuel to Cantagallo, has a scheduled time of 107 minutes for 30.8 km and 85 stops. This is a reference time without incidents: in peak hours it is best to allow extra time.
Bus stops and Metro connections
The 406 has 85 stops outbound and 89 on the return, and passes 23 Metro stations. In the west: Pudahuel, San Pablo, Lo Prado, Blanqueado, Gruta de Lourdes and Quinta Normal. On the Alameda: Estación Central, Unión Latinoamericana, República, Los Héroes, La Moneda, Universidad de Chile, Santa Lucía and Universidad Católica. In the east: Salvador, Manuel Montt, Pedro de Valdivia, Los Leones, Tobalaba, El Golf, Alcántara, Escuela Militar and Manquehue.

How to find out where the 406 bus is
The official tool is the App Red (in the app stores, “Red Metropolitana de Movilidad”), which is free and has an arrival predictor for each bus stop (paradero). In a browser, use “¿Cuándo llega?” on red.cl. For both you need the bus stop code, printed on the stop sign: it starts with P, followed by a zone letter and a number. The App Red also plans trips combining buses, Metro and Tren Nos.
Fare and tarjeta bip!
Since 22 February 2026 the adult fare on Red buses is CLP 795, the same at any time of day. Secondary and higher-education students pay CLP 260 with the TNE, primary school pupils ride free and seniors with the bip! Adulto Mayor pay CLP 390. You can pay with the tarjeta bip! (it costs CLP 1,550) or with bip!QR from the App Red and other apps.
A single payment covers up to two transfers (three legs) within 120 minutes of the first validation, as long as you do not repeat the same bus route. There is no extra charge between buses; if you transfer from the 406 to the Metro during peak hours, you pay the difference up to CLP 895.
Tips for travelling on the 406
- It is the most used service in the network: in peak hours, if the bus arrives full, wait for the next one, which according to the schedule comes within a few minutes.
- Between Estación Central and Tobalaba it runs alongside the Metro, so you can transfer at any of those stations.
- If you are going to La Dehesa, take the 406c at Escuela Militar; the regular 406 ends at Cantagallo.
- If you are travelling in the early hours or early on Sunday, check in the App Red how long the wait is before heading to the bus stop; on Sunday the first departure is at 05:30.
