Santiago bus 428 (Red): route map, stops and timetable

Route 428 is an orbital bus (locally called a “micro”): it links the north and south of Santiago through the west, following Américo Vespucio, without entering the centre. It runs from Metro Los Libertadores to Metro La Cisterna, passing through Quilicura and the Mall Arauco Maipú and Mall Plaza Oeste area, over 35.8 km. It is a Red Movilidad service, the system formerly known as Transantiago, and it is run by RBU Santiago. As well as “recorrido 428”, many people search for it as “428 recorrido”. Route 428: from Los Libertadores to La Cisterna

Quilicura. The 428 starts at Los Libertadores station, passes the Barrio Industrial El Cortijo and takes Av. Manuel A. Matta westwards, with stops at Ferrocarril station, Lo Campino and 4 Oriente, and at Lo Cruzat station. It continues along Arturo Prat to Plaza Quilicura and on via José F. Vergara, Av. General San Martín, Intendente Saavedra and Aníbal Pinto until it comes out onto Américo Vespucio.

Western Américo Vespucio. The longest stretch runs south along Av. Américo Vespucio: Camino Lo Echevers, Camino Lo Boza, Miraflores, Rotonda Boulevard Aeropuerto (with a detour via Los Maitenes), Rotonda San Pablo, Puerto Madero, La Travesía, the Cementerio Parque del Sendero and Parque Los Manantiales. It then passes the Colegio Alicante de Maipú, Mall Arauco Maipú, Av. Lumen, the Gimnasio Cerrillos, Camino a Lonquén, Mall Plaza Oeste, Lider Oeste and the Cementerio Metropolitano.

Lo Espejo and La Cisterna. At the end it leaves Vespucio, takes Av. J. J. Prieto Vial and Avenida Lo Espejo eastwards, stops at El Bosque station and at Paradero 27 de Gran Avenida, and ends at La Cisterna station.

The return trip leaves La Cisterna via Trinidad Ramírez and Capricornio, rejoins Américo Vespucio at the Cementerio Metropolitano and follows the same axis north. In Quilicura it passes Plaza Quilicura station and enters Los Libertadores via Lo Campino and Alcalde Guzmán.

428 services and variants

The 428e is the express service between the same termini, Metro Los Libertadores and Metro La Cisterna. It covers the Quilicura section with almost all the stops, but on Américo Vespucio it stops very little: 24 stops outbound and 18 on the return, against 63 on the regular 428. It is 34.3 km long and runs Monday to Friday only, from 05:30 to 22:00, with about 49 departures. One thing worth noting: in the current schedule its outbound travel time is 74 minutes, slightly more than the 70 of the regular 428, so its advantage lies in stopping less, not in a shorter scheduled time.

Route 428 timetable

According to the current DTPM operating schedule (October 2026), the 428 runs 24 hours a day, Monday to Sunday. The schedule provides for about 128 departures on weekdays, 116 on Saturday and 94 on Sunday. In the early hours it runs at longer intervals than during the day.

In the morning peak (07:00 to 09:00) on a weekday, the shortest scheduled interval is 7 minutes on the 428 and 10 minutes on the 428e. The express does not run at weekends or at night.

How long the 428 takes

According to the operating schedule, a full outbound trip on the 428, from Los Libertadores to La Cisterna, has a scheduled time of 70 minutes for 35.8 km. The route has 63 outbound stops and most of the trip runs along Américo Vespucio. This is a reference time: allow extra time in peak hours.

Bus stops and Metro connections

The 428 has 63 stops in each direction. It passes the Los Libertadores, Ferrocarril and Lo Cruzat Metro stations in the north, and El Bosque and La Cisterna in the south; on the return also Plaza Quilicura. On the Américo Vespucio stretch there are no Metro stations on the route, but there are destinations such as Mall Arauco Maipú and Mall Plaza Oeste.

How to find out where the 428 bus is

To see how long until the next 428, use the App Red (in the app stores, “Red Metropolitana de Movilidad”), which is free and has an arrival predictor for each bus stop (paradero). You can also use “¿Cuándo llega?” on red.cl. Enter the bus stop code, printed on the stop sign: it starts with P, followed by a zone letter and a number. The App Red also has a planner that combines buses, Metro and Tren Nos.

Fare and tarjeta bip!

Since 22 February 2026 the adult fare on Red buses is CLP 795 at any time, including on the 428e. Secondary and higher-education students pay CLP 260 with the TNE, primary school pupils ride free and seniors with the bip! Adulto Mayor pay CLP 390. You can pay with the tarjeta bip! (it costs CLP 1,550) or with bip!QR from the App Red and other apps.

A single payment covers up to two transfers (three legs) within 120 minutes of the first validation, as long as you do not repeat the same bus route. There is no extra charge between buses; if you transfer from the 428 to the Metro during peak hours, you pay the difference up to CLP 895.

Tips for travelling on the 428

• Use it to cross from north to south through the west without going through the centre, for example from Quilicura to Mall Plaza Oeste.
• If your bus stop on Vespucio is not one of the few where the 428e stops, wait for the regular 428.
• At La Cisterna and Los Libertadores you can continue by Metro within the 120-minute transfer window.
• At night, check the App Red before you leave: the 428 runs 24 hours, but with fewer departures.
