The national government has confirmed the payment of an extraordinary pension bonus of up to $70,000 in September 2026, benefiting retirees, pensioners, and holders of social benefits. The decision was formalized through decree 824/2026 published in the Official Gazette.
This additional bonus applies to those registered in the pension system of the National Administration of Social Security (ANSES), including beneficiaries of the contributory system, the Universal Pension for the Older Adult (PUAM), and non-contributory pensions, as long as their benefits are active in the payment month. The decree establishes that the bonus will be non-remunerative, cannot be subject to deductions, and will not be considered for other purposes.
Beneficiaries receiving amounts equal to or less than the guaranteed minimum pension will receive the full amount of $70,000, while those exceeding that threshold will only receive what is necessary to reach the sum of the minimum pension plus the bonus. The calculation will be performed per holder and not by family group, as stated in the articles of the decree.
It has been clarified that in cases of shared pensions, the co-participants will be treated as a single holder for the purpose of the right to receive the extraordinary bonus. This affects the calculation of the supplement for that type of benefit.
The decree also establishes that to access the bonus, the benefits must be active in the same month of payment. It is worth remembering that Law 27.609, implemented in March 2021, introduced a pension mobility formula that has presented “severe and serious issues,” as it did not adjust properly to inflation and economic conditions.
In light of this situation, the government has begun to grant monthly increases based on inflation to the latest data published by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (Indec). In addition, starting January 2024, the $70,000 bonus will be added, which has not been updated since its announcement. Recently, a general price increase of 2.1% was detected in July, which anticipates an enhancement of pensions and retirement benefits in line with that figure.
Consequently, the minimum pension would rise to $428,591.11, and, adding the bonus, would reach $498,591.11, although these values are still pending official confirmation. The implementation of this supplement seeks to preserve the purchasing power of the benefits and avoid additional losses in the purchasing ability of the most vulnerable beneficiaries in the pension system.
