At the opening on September 1, the US dollar is quoted at 11.84 bolivianos, marking an increase of 1.92% compared to the previous closing of 11.62 bolivianos.

In the last week, the North American currency has increased by 4.49%, and its year-on-year evolution shows a significant increase of 72.85%. The exchange rate of the dollar to bolivianos has shown a recent positive trend, with a notable increase. Currently, volatility stands at 23.72%, lower than the reference volatility of 41.23%, indicating greater stability in the exchange market.

The economic outlook for the dollar in Bolivia for 2026 suggests that the parallel market showed temporary stability at the beginning of that year, with quotations approaching Bs 9.64. This phenomenon is associated with expectations arising from currency reforms and the announcement of external financing of $4.500 million from the IDB for the period 2026-2028.

The Bolivian government aims to reduce the fiscal deficit to 7% this year, anticipating inflation that could reach 17%. However, the IMF has warned that inflation could exceed 15% if monetary issuance is not adequately controlled, which keeps uncertainty high.

Regarding GDP, the World Bank anticipates a recession of -1.1% in Bolivia for 2026, while ECLAC forecasts a marginal growth of 0.5%. On the other hand, the IMF has decided not to provide long-term projections due to the high level of uncertainty.

The currency unification process for the first semester includes the gradual release of dollars into the financial system and the daily publication of reference values by the Central Bank of Bolivia (BCB), currently around Bs 9.21 for buying and Bs 9.40 for selling. Although the official exchange rate remains at Bs 6.96, its relevance has diminished in commercial operations compared to the new market values. The country is facing a structural transition challenge in the context of an economic contraction following the high volatility of 2025.
