The Chamber of Deputies of the Nation is preparing to advance on projects related to delinquency and the emergency in disability this week. Through a call made by the opposition blocs, the intention is to avoid leaving these initiatives unexamined.
After a week of controversy, where La Libertad Avanza (LLA) had rejected submitting the projects for debate, the presidency of the Finance Committee, led by Deputy Santiago Pauli, has announced a schedule of meetings. Pauli has set up two informational sessions: one scheduled for tomorrow and another for next Wednesday. The ruling party has also planned two additional meetings for September 23 and 30 with the aim of issuing opinions on the projects.
On the other hand, opposition blocs criticized this schedule, reaffirming the need for a session on Wednesday. They point out that the intention is not to approve the initiatives but to urge the body to have committees set concrete dates to rule on vital projects to address delinquency and the emergency in disability. They accused LLA and other legislators of trying to delay the handling of the matter. “This is a maneuver to buy time,” stated Cecilia Moreau, insisting that Congress must legislate to resolve a crisis affecting millions of Argentines.
In tomorrow’s session, various voices are expected to be heard. Deputy Laura Rodríguez Machado suggested including “union representatives and financial experts” in the debate, which generated reactions in the chamber due to accusations directed at certain sectors attempting to prolong the debate. Myriam Bregman, for her part, emphasized the ineffectiveness of the schedule, considering that the situation requires immediate and urgent action.
The opposition’s insistence on holding the session on September 9 remains, with Deputy Pablo Juliano arguing that the ruling party has avoided addressing the issue appropriately. He reiterated that the session aims to institutionalize a schedule that leads to effective voting, dismissing attempts to delay the debate.
