The Buenos Aires bus fare in October 2026 starts at ARS 742.81 on national lines, ARS 920.48 on City lines and ARS 1,215.09 on Province lines, paid with a registered SUBE card for trips up to 3 km.

This guide gives you the full fare tables by distance band, the price gap between a registered and an unregistered SUBE card, how the Tarifa Social Federal and RED SUBE transfer discounts work, and how to tell which jurisdiction your line belongs to. All figures come from the official RedSUBE fare page for Greater Buenos Aires (AMBA) and apply from October 2026. Fares change every month, so check that page again when a new month starts.

How the Buenos Aires bus fare works by jurisdiction

The Buenos Aires bus fare depends on who regulates the line (the national government, the City of Buenos Aires or the Province of Buenos Aires) and on how far you ride. Each jurisdiction has its own fare table, so two buses stopping at the same corner can charge different amounts.

The table shows the minimum fare (0-3 km) and the most expensive distance band for each jurisdiction in October 2026, always with a registered SUBE card.

Jurisdiction Minimum fare (0-3 km) Longest band Fare for longest band
National lines ARS 742.81 Over 27 km ARS 1,337.06
City of Buenos Aires ARS 920.48 12-27 km ARS 1,180.44
Province of Buenos Aires ARS 1,215.09 Over 27 km ARS 2,142.81

National lines have the cheapest minimum fare in the metro area. Province lines have both the highest minimum fare and the most expensive band, ARS 2,142.81 for trips over 27 km.

National line fares in October 2026

National lines charge between ARS 742.81 and ARS 1,337.06 with a registered SUBE card in October 2026, depending on the distance band. These are the lines that link the City with the suburbs, such as bus 60, bus 29 or bus 8, which runs out to Ezeiza airport.

Distance band Registered SUBE Unregistered SUBE
0-3 km ARS 742.81 ARS 1,485.62
3-6 km ARS 861.66 ARS 1,723.32
6-12 km ARS 1,002.80 ARS 2,005.60
12-27 km ARS 1,151.36 ARS 2,302.72
Over 27 km ARS 1,337.06 ARS 2,674.12

An unregistered card pays exactly double on every band. On long routes such as bus 8, the band you pay depends on where you board and where you get off, so the same bus can cost ARS 742.81 or more than ARS 1,300.

City of Buenos Aires line fares

The 31 lines that run only inside the City charge between ARS 920.48 and ARS 1,180.44 with a registered SUBE card in October 2026. They are lines 4, 6, 7, 12, 23, 25, 26, 34, 39, 42, 44, 47, 50, 61, 62, 64, 65, 68, 76, 84, 90, 99, 102, 106, 107, 108, 109, 115, 118, 132 and 151, transferred to City jurisdiction by Resolution 4/2026 of the City Transport Secretariat.

Distance band Registered SUBE Unregistered SUBE
0-3 km ARS 920.48 ARS 1,463.56
3-6 km ARS 1,022.81 ARS 1,626.27
6-12 km ARS 1,101.59 ARS 1,751.53
12-27 km ARS 1,180.44 ARS 1,876.90

City lines have four bands and no over-27-km band, because they never leave the City. The surcharge for an unregistered card is about 59%, lower than on national and Province lines.

Province of Buenos Aires line fares

Province lines, which run between municipalities in the suburbs, charge between ARS 1,215.09 and ARS 2,142.81 with a registered SUBE card in October 2026. In the suburbs the Buenos Aires bus fare is at its highest, and an unregistered card costs the most here too.

Distance band Registered SUBE Unregistered SUBE
0-3 km ARS 1,215.09 ARS 2,430.18
3-6 km ARS 1,366.97 ARS 2,733.94
6-12 km ARS 1,518.85 ARS 3,037.70
12-27 km ARS 1,822.63 ARS 3,645.26
Over 27 km ARS 2,142.81 ARS 4,285.62

Without registration, every Province band doubles. A trip over 27 km goes from ARS 2,142.81 to ARS 4,285.62, so on a long suburban ride the Buenos Aires bus fare for an unregistered card can be more than five times the national minimum fare.

Registered vs unregistered SUBE card

Registering your SUBE card is the simplest way to pay less: on national and Province lines an unregistered card pays double, and on City lines it pays about 59% more. You register with the card number and your personal details.

Jurisdiction Minimum fare, registered Minimum fare, unregistered Difference
National ARS 742.81 ARS 1,485.62 Double
City ARS 920.48 ARS 1,463.56 About 59% more
Province ARS 1,215.09 ARS 2,430.18 Double

A registered physical card is also one of the accepted ways to get RED SUBE transfer discounts. If you have just arrived, our guide on how to buy, register and top up a SUBE card walks you through it.

Tarifa Social Federal and RED SUBE discounts

The Tarifa Social Federal gives a 55% discount on the reference fare in force on 30 June 2026, according to the official SUBE page on the social fare, which cites Resolution 40/2026. Because the discount is calculated on that reference fare and not on the October fare, the amount you pay is not exactly half of the current table.

Eligible groups include retirees and pensioners, AUH recipients, PROGRESAR students, domestic workers and Malvinas veterans. The discount applies automatically to the card chosen as the main SUBE, and you can check eligibility on 0800-777-7823, option 2. Most short-term visitors will not qualify.

RED SUBE discounts the second and later trips you take within two hours of the first one, according to the official RED SUBE page:

  • First trip: full fare.
  • Second trip: 50% off.
  • Third trip onward: 75% off, up to five transfers.
  • Cap: the maximum discount per trip equals the minimum national bus fare (ARS 742.81 in October 2026).

The discount covers national trains and buses, City buses, the Subte and the Premetro. Province buses get no discount when used as the second trip, and you must pay with the same method each time (the same SUBE card, SUBE Digital or the app QR). For example, a 6-12 km ride on a national line (ARS 1,002.80) followed by a short ride on a City line (ARS 460.24 with 50% off) adds up to ARS 1,463.04. If you combine a bus with the Subte or a train on the same day, plan the transfers within the two-hour window to keep your total Buenos Aires bus fare down. Beneficiaries of the social fare get both discounts on national buses, City buses and trains.

How to find the fare for your line

To know the Buenos Aires bus fare for your trip you need two things: the jurisdiction of the line and the distance band to your stop. With both, you look up the price in the matching table.

  1. Check whether the line is a City line. If its number is in the list of 31 City lines, use the City table.
  2. If the line crosses between the City and the suburbs, it is national. That covers the lines in our guide to Buenos Aires bus routes and timetables.
  3. If the line only links suburban municipalities, it is usually a Province line. Use the Province table.
  4. When you board, tell the driver where you are going. The driver sets the band and the card reader deducts the fare from your SUBE.

The amount shown on the card reader confirms which band you paid. If you are planning a summer trip, see also Buenos Aires in December and January.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the bus in Buenos Aires in October 2026?

The minimum bus fare in Greater Buenos Aires is ARS 742.81 on national lines, ARS 920.48 on City lines and ARS 1,215.09 on Province lines, with a registered SUBE card for trips up to 3 km. These are the official RedSUBE values from October 2026. Longer trips cost more, up to ARS 2,142.81 on Province lines.

Why do two buses on the same street charge different fares?

Two buses on the same street can charge different fares because each line follows the fare table of its jurisdiction. In October 2026 the minimum fare is ARS 742.81 on national lines, ARS 920.48 on City lines and ARS 1,215.09 on Province lines. The distance band to your stop also changes the price on every line.

How much more does an unregistered SUBE card pay?

An unregistered card pays double on national and Province lines and about 59% more on City lines in October 2026. The minimum fare goes from ARS 742.81 to ARS 1,485.62 on national lines and from ARS 920.48 to ARS 1,463.56 on City lines. Registering with the card number and your details removes the surcharge.

How often does the bus fare change?

Bus fares in Greater Buenos Aires are updated every month, which is why this guide states the month each value applies to. The amounts on this page apply from October 2026. Before each new month, check the official RedSUBE fare page, which publishes the tables for national, City and Province lines.

How do RED SUBE transfer discounts work?

RED SUBE takes 50% off your second trip and 75% off the third and later trips, as long as you travel within two hours of the first one and pay with the same method. The first trip is full price, and the discount per trip is capped at the minimum national bus fare. Province buses get no discount as a second trip.

How do I know if my bus is a national, City or Province line?

The 31 City lines are those listed in Resolution 4/2026, such as 4, 39 and 64. Lines that cross between the City and the suburbs, such as 60 or 8, are national. Lines that only link suburban municipalities are usually Province lines and use the most expensive fare table.
