The Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, met with financial investors in New York, assuring that the Government will maintain its economic course unchanged despite the elections in 2027.
During the meeting, which took place at the new JPMorgan building in Manhattan, Caputo highlighted the support from the Government of Donald Trump and international organizations for Argentina’s economic program. The meeting was organized by Facundo Gómez Minujín and attended by between 50 to 60 investors, who expressed concerns about the future economy under Javier Milei’s policy and the impact of next year’s presidential elections.
Caputo conveyed that no changes are contemplated in the Government’s economic strategy, reaffirming the commitment to the targets agreed upon with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which include a fiscal surplus and the accumulation of reserves. In a parallel context, a technical mission from the IMF held meetings at the Central Bank of the Republic of Argentina (BCRA) to conduct the third review of the program signed in April 2025.
The minister emphasized that the administration does not foresee modifications due to the elections, stressing that a conservative approach will be beneficial for the country. He also mentioned the support received by the economic program from U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who highlighted the transformation occurring in Argentina and adjacent regions.
Regarding the plan to avoid potential currency runs in 2027, the economic portfolio highlighted the purchase of more than $14.200 billion by the Central Bank this year, in addition to emphasizing swaps with the United States and China for $20.000 billion each. Furthermore, it reiterated that the backing from the IMF and the World Bank is crucial for the country’s economic development.
Caputo’s presentation is part of the agenda leading up to Milei’s arrival in New York to participate in the 81st United Nations General Assembly, where he will also hold meetings with financial sector leaders and entrepreneurs.
