Nicolás Varrone, after returning to Argentina, offered his first statements regarding his departure from Formula 2. Despite facing the challenges of his season, the Buenos Aires driver appears ready for his future challenges.
Varrone, originally from Ingeniero Maschwitz, analyzed his experience in Formula 2 in an interview. Although he considers that he could have taken the final step towards Formula 1, he expressed that he does not regret taking on this challenge. ‘I proved that I was up to the task,’ Varrone stated, who had an opportunity in the category after excelling in Endurance.
The relationship with the Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR) team, from the Villagómez family, is positive, despite his departure three races before the end. The 25-year-old driver commented on the poor performance of the Dallara and the series of problems they faced throughout the season. ‘We decided to part on good terms thinking it was best for everyone,’ he added.
Varrone had a promising start to the season, managing to lead in Australia and achieving good results in the races in Miami and Canada. However, his performance was affected in the last five races due to grip issues and tire degradation. ‘Starting from the back always conditioned us,’ he commented.
Despite the challenges, he reflected on the penalties he received and some mistakes made, affirming that everything happens for a reason. ‘It’s a shame I couldn’t close it out, but it’s those little things that make you stronger,’ said the driver. Varrone acknowledged that, despite losing income by leaving an Endurance contract, his motivation was not financial, but rather the opportunity for a new challenge.
As the interview comes to a close, his desire to share his feelings about his experience becomes evident. ‘I do not regret at all the decision I made,’ he emphasized, while admitting that the situation, although difficult, represents a small obstacle he is willing to overcome. Looking forward, Varrone remains cautious but hopeful of securing a seat in a competitive Formula 2 team by 2027 or returning to the World Endurance Championship (WEC).
Nevertheless, the driver will continue competing in the Endurance arena, as he prepares for the Petit Le Mans race at Road Atlanta, where he hopes to feel back in his element after a challenging year.
