César Carman, the president of the Automóvil Club Argentino (ACA), expressed confidence that Argentina will once again host Formula 1 events. In an interview, he emphasized the need for patience while discussing the anticipated return of both Formula 1 and the World Rally Championship (WRC) to the country.
During his tenure, Carman has focused on revitalizing motorsport in Argentina, inheriting a legacy from his father and grandfather. A notable point of discussion was the return of Formula 1, with Carman stating, “We need to have patience, but we will have Formula 1. I am very confident that Argentina will have Formula 1 again.” He noted that while the timing remains uncertain, securing the event is a significant goal for the nation.
The Autódromo de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires Oscar y Juan Gálvez is currently undergoing extensive renovations, with structural work reported to be at 60 percent completion. The venue seeks to meet the FIA’s Grade 1 standards, crucial for hosting Formula 1 races. Carman indicated that FIA inspectors will check the completed facilities possibly in March or April, paving the way for future events.
However, with the current Formula 1 calendar already filled with 24 events, a slot for Argentina would require waiting until at least 2028, when the contracts for several existing venues expire. The geopolitical situation further complicates matters, as recent conflicts in the Middle East have led to race cancellations, creating potential opportunities for Argentina.
In addition, Carman is optimistic about the expected return of the WRC in 2028, with Córdoba set to be the host city. He highlighted the strong community connection to the rally and the local government’s commitment to making it happen. “There’s a significant commitment there from the governor,” he said.
With a history of hosting 39 editions of the Rally since 1980, Córdoba has long been recognized as a vital center for motorsport in Argentina. Carman remains hopeful that collaborative efforts with FIA support will result in the successful return of these international motorsport events.
