Renata Zarazúa was eliminated in the first round of the Guadalajara Open after losing to American Caroline Dolehide in three sets, with scores of 1-6, 6-3, and 3-6. The defeat marks the end of the main Mexican racket’s participation in the local tournament and continues a lackluster season for her.

Dolehide dominated from the start, using deep shots and greater aggressiveness in rallies, which allowed her to win the first set with a clear advantage. Zarazúa, however, improved her game in the second set, achieving two breaks and leveling the score by winning the set 6-3.

In the decisive set, both players maintained a close performance at the beginning, but Dolehide took the lead by capitalizing on one of her break opportunities. Despite Zarazúa’s efforts to stay competitive, Dolehide closed the match with a 6-3 after one hour and 46 minutes of play. Match statistics showed that Dolehide won 73.2% of her points on her first serve, while Zarazúa had a 63.8% success rate.

With this victory, Dolehide advanced to the round of 16 of the Guadalajara Open and takes a 4-3 lead in the head-to-head against Zarazúa. The Guadalajara Open, a WTA 500 category tournament, is being held from September 13 to 19, 2026, at the Pan American Tennis Center in Guadalajara. The event attracts some of the world’s best players, with Marta Kostyuk, who reached the semifinals at Wimbledon this year, being one of the standout figures.

This edition of the tournament also features players such as Iva Jovic, Anna Kalinskaya, and Bianca Andreescu, among others. Mexican fans can expect to see exciting performances in this event where Kostyuk and Jovic are considered favorites, although the potential for surprises is always present.

Renata Zarazúa was also eliminated in the first round of the 2026 US Open, losing to Polina Iatcenko in a close finish. This series of results in Grand Slam tournaments underscores a challenging year for the Mexican tennis player, who achieved significant milestones in 2025 but has not been able to replicate that success in 2026.
