Queen Margrethe of Denmark, 86 years old, has been hospitalized in Copenhagen due to a “discomfort”. She has been diagnosed with “a new thrombus” and mild dehydration, which will require her admission for approximately a week.
The Danish Royal House reported that Her Majesty was admitted to Rigshospitalet on Sunday after feeling unwell. According to the statement, “a thrombus in her hip and mild dehydration have been detected,” for which she is receiving treatment. Additionally, the Royal House emphasized that the monarch “is in good spirits and well, considering the circumstances,” although she is expected to remain hospitalized for observation and treatment.
As a result of her hospitalization, unfortunately, Her Majesty will be unable to attend the funeral of King Harald V of Norway, scheduled for this Wednesday in Oslo. The Norwegian king passed away on August 28 at the age of 89 and was succeeded by his son, Crown Prince Haakon VIII.
Queen Margrethe has faced health issues in the past, including several hospitalizations in May due to coronary problems that led to an angioplasty. Days later, a thrombus in her hip was detected following a fall she suffered.
Since her abdication in January 2014, when she handed the throne to her son Frederik, now Frederik X, the queen has retained her title and continues to be involved in official events. During her reign, which began in 1972, she has been the second longest-reigning monarch in Denmark.
