Indio Solari (Carlos Alberto Solari, 1949-2026) was the singer and lyricist of Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota and, as a solo artist, the leader of Los Fundamentalistas del Aire Acondicionado.

The profile below sticks to verified facts: his childhood in La Plata, the story of Los Redondos with guitarist Skay Beilinson and producer Carmen “Poli” Castro, a dated discography, the 2017 Olavarría concert and its court outcome, what he said in public about Parkinson’s, and his death on 5 June 2026. Sources are his official website, Argentina’s national press (La Nación, Infobae, La Gaceta) and court decisions as reported by those outlets. Facts checked on 15 October 2026.

Who was Indio Solari: key facts and a La Plata childhood

Indio Solari was born in Paraná, Entre Ríos province, on 17 January 1949, and grew up in La Plata, the capital of Buenos Aires province, where his family moved when he was a small child. His father worked for the postal service.

In his memoir Recuerdos que mienten un poco (Sudamericana, 2019), told in conversations with journalist Marcelo Figueras, he recalled the house on calle 41 between 7 and 8 and the square at 7 and 38 where he spent his days. La Plata is also where, in the mid-1970s, the band that made him famous took shape.

Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota: from La Plata to the “misas ricoteras”

Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota, usually shortened to Los Redondos, formed in La Plata in 1976 around three people: Indio Solari, guitarist Skay Beilinson and Carmen “La Negra Poli” Castro, who ran the band’s production for its whole history.

The first shows, in 1977, were theatrical events with actors, dancers and monologues in La Plata venues. The name came from the ricotta fritters (“redonditos de ricota”) that Edgardo Gaudini handed out to the audience. According to the newspaper La Gaceta, the first official gig under that name took place in early January 1978 at the Polaco bar in Salta: the date was long given as 7 January, and recent research places it on the 6th.

The debut album, Gulp!, came out independently in 1985 and was launched that year at Cemento, a Buenos Aires club that had opened a few months earlier. The classic line-up was complete by 1987, when Walter Sidotti (drums) and Sergio Dawi (saxophone) joined bassist Semilla Bucciarelli, a member since 1982.

The band grew with little help from mainstream media and kept tight control over how and where it played. Its concerts came to be called “misas ricoteras” (ricotta masses) because of the devotion of the fans, known as ricoteros, who travelled from all over Argentina. Los Redondos went on to fill stadiums such as Huracán in 1993-1994 and River Plate on 15 and 16 April 2000.

Their last show was on 4 August 2001 at the Chateau Carreras stadium in Córdoba, now the Mario Kempes, with no farewell announced. The split was confirmed later that year. There was never a detailed official explanation; the press attributed it to differences between Solari and Skay.

Solo career with Los Fundamentalistas del Aire Acondicionado

Indio Solari’s solo career began in December 2004 with El tesoro de los inocentes (Bingo Fuel), an independently produced album he took on the road with Los Fundamentalistas del Aire Acondicionado.

The live debut came in November 2005 at the Estadio Ciudad de La Plata. Next came Porco Rex (2007), El perfume de la tempestad (2010), Pajaritos, bravos muchachitos (2013) and El ruiseñor, el amor y la muerte (2018), his final studio album.

His solo concerts kept the “misa” format: one show in a provincial city that drew hundreds of thousands of people. The best remembered are the Tandil racecourse on 12 March 2016 and Olavarría on 11 March 2017.

Between 2022 and 2023 he released stand-alone songs with a side project, El Míster y los Marsupiales Extintos, premiered on Marcelo Figueras’ radio show and on his official channels. In 2017 he published his first book, Escenas del delito americano (Sudamericana).

Olavarría 2017: the last concert and the court case

Solari’s last concert took place on 11 March 2017 at the La Colmena grounds in Olavarría, Buenos Aires province, and two fans, Juan Francisco Bulacio and Javier León, died in the crowd. Autopsies found that both died of asphyxia.

There is no official attendance figure. The site was licensed for about 155,000 people, and press estimates ranged from 200,000 to more than 300,000.

The criminal case targeted the promoters, not the musician. In February 2019 judge Carlos Villamarín sent Marcos and Matías Peuscovich and Gustavo Zurita to trial for negligent homicide and negligent injury, and ruled out charges against Solari, who only testified as a witness, as reported by La Nación.

Date Court Decision
February 2019 Olavarría pre-trial court (Garantías) Sends the three promoters to trial; no charges for Solari
2022 Olavarría correctional court Ends the criminal case after a compensation agreement with the victims
26 August 2022 Azul Court of Appeals Reverses that ruling at the prosecution’s request
May 2023 Buenos Aires Province Court of Cassation Restores the end of the criminal case
September 2026 Buenos Aires Province Supreme Court Rejects the prosecution’s appeal; the ruling stands

With the provincial Supreme Court decision, reported on 9 September 2026 by local Olavarría media, the case is closed at provincial level. Those outlets noted that prosecutors could still try to take it to Argentina’s national Supreme Court.

Parkinson’s disease: what Indio Solari said in public

Solari publicly confirmed that he had Parkinson’s disease on 12 March 2016, in front of the crowd at his concert at the Tandil racecourse.

A year earlier, in June 2015, he told Mario Pergolini on Vorterix radio that he had an illness that was neither cancer nor AIDS, without naming it (Infobae). In Tandil he said the rumour was true and that Parkinson’s was “on his heels”.

He did not play live again after Olavarría. In February 2026 he spent time in hospital for check-ups, and his family denied rumours of a stroke. Diariko adds no medical detail beyond what he and his family said publicly.

Indio Solari’s death and the latest news in 2026

Indio Solari died on Friday 5 June 2026 at his home in Parque Leloir, Ituzaingó district, aged 77, and his family confirmed the news the same day.

The autopsy, ordered by the Ituzaingó prosecutor’s office (UFI No. 2), found a haemorrhagic stroke and ruled out drowning, according to La Nación. That afternoon hundreds of fans gathered in Plaza de Mayo.

The public farewell was held on Sunday 7 June at the José María Gatica sports centre in Villa Domínico, Avellaneda. It opened at 10 am and ran into the early hours of Monday; Buenos Aires provincial government sources counted more than 200,000 people by 8:20 pm.

Los Fundamentalistas del Aire Acondicionado kept playing and dedicated their shows to him, from Comodoro Rivadavia that same weekend to the Tucumán racecourse on 10 October 2026, announced as their last concert of the year. In September his partner Virginia Mones Ruiz and his son Bruno issued a statement against fake texts and AI-generated content circulating under his name.

Legacy and places linked to Los Redondos

Indio Solari’s legacy combines a body of cryptic, poetic lyrics, a band that worked outside the major labels, and a collective ritual, the misa ricotera, that outlived him.

His lines are quoted on flags, murals and social media. The self-managed model of Los Redondos, with Poli in charge of production, remains a reference point for independent bands in Argentina.

The places in his story are spread across the country: La Plata, where he grew up and the band was born; Salta, home of the first official gig; Buenos Aires, with Cemento and the Huracán and River stadiums; then Córdoba, Tandil and Olavarría. To get from Buenos Aires to La Plata, the Roca line train leaves from Constitución and you pay with a SUBE card. Within the city, the Buenos Aires bus lines connect the neighbourhoods, and it helps to check the current Buenos Aires bus fare before you go.
