Facundo “Jagger” Herrera made his second official appearance with Boca Juniors this Sunday by coming on during the match against Racing in Avellaneda. The young central defender, who joined the first team due to injuries in that position, received praise for his performance from coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena.
Born in San Martín, Buenos Aires province, in 2006, Herrera is 20 years old, stands 1.80 meters tall, and is right-footed. He started his career in Boca’s youth divisions, where he stood out in the reserve team managed by Mariano Herrón, becoming one of its captains. His first call-up to the first team was for a match against Deportivo Riestra, where he occupied a place on the bench, although he did not get to play.
His field debut occurred later in a match against Recoleta and, just a few days later, he had the chance to play in the classic against Racing, coming on for Ayrton Costa and playing the entire second half. His entry allowed Boca to field six players trained in the youth divisions during the second half.
Arruabarrena commented that the defender performed well and emphasized the importance of managing the accumulation of matches to prevent injuries. On social media, Boca Predio’s official account celebrated his debut with a photo of the player after the match and a video of his interventions, accompanied by a song from The Rolling Stones referencing his nickname.
Herrera, nicknamed “Jagger” for his physical resemblance to the famous British band’s singer, revealed in an interview that he was not familiar with his music when they gave him that nickname. Boca’s management signed his first professional contract in June 2024, and in September 2025, announced an extension, securing his continuity at the club until December 2028.
In less than a week, the defender has gone from debuting to playing a full half in a classic Argentine football match, with a performance that has been well-received by fans and has contributed to his promotion within Boca’s professional squad.
