Julio César Chávez Jr. and Omar Chávez have successfully passed the weigh-in for their upcoming fight in Puebla this Saturday, September 12. The sons of the boxing legend are set to face Colombians Jeison Troncoso and Brayan Santander, respectively, in a charitable event against addiction.
Both boxers surpassed the weigh-in without setbacks. Julio César Chávez Jr. weighed in at 90 kilograms, meeting the limit established for his fight in the cruiserweight category, where he will face Jeison Troncoso, who recorded the same weight. This bout, which will be for 10 rounds, will not have any title at stake, but it represents an opportunity for Chávez Jr. to reaffirm his continuity in the sport after periods of limited activity.
Chávez Jr. commented that he has prepared to face a dangerous opponent, as Troncoso has a respectable record with 10 of his 14 victories coming by knockout. For his part, Troncoso expressed that he anticipates an interesting clash of styles, as he will look to maintain distance while Chávez Jr. aims to apply pressure from the beginning of the fight.
Omar Chávez also passed the weigh-in, registering 88.200 kilograms before his match with Brayan Santander, who weighed 88.700 kilograms. The difference in weight will not prevent the fight from happening, and Omar expressed that fighting alongside his brother adds extra motivation. Both boxers seek to demonstrate that they can resume an active career in professional boxing.
The boxing event will take place at the Gimnasio Miguel Hidalgo in Puebla, starting at 3:00 PM and will be broadcast on Azteca 7, as well as on TV Azteca’s digital platforms. In addition to the Chávez brothers, other Mexican boxers, including Alexandro “Peque” Santiago, will also be in action, providing a mix of fights between recognized figures and local talents.
Julio César Chávez, the patriarch of the family, will be present at an event that also commemorates his own victories in Puebla throughout his career. With the weigh-in already completed, both Julio César Chávez Jr. and Omar Chávez are preparing to deliver a significant show to their supporters this Saturday.
