The Clausura Tournament is in its decisive phase and the institutions are fighting to qualify for the playoffs or secure their place in international competitions. In this context, Instituto and Talleres will meet in a historic classic.
In the lead-up to the match, Gimnasia and Banfield drew 2-2 in an exciting game at the Juan Carmelo Zerillo Stadium in La Plata. Banfield equalized in the last minute thanks to a goal from David Zalazar, which allowed them to maintain distance from the relegation zone. Gimnasia led the scoreboard twice but could not seal the victory.
The first goal was scored by Agustín Auzmendi with a header following a corner kick, and Lucas Janson missed a penalty that could have increased the lead. Lautaro Gómez equalized with a great shot, and Auzmendi again put Gimnasia ahead with a pass to Pedro Silva Torrejón that resulted in a 2-1. Finally, the equalizer arrived in stoppage time.
In another match, Gimnasia de Mendoza failed to score against Deportivo Riestra in a goalless draw at the Víctor Antonio Legrotaglie Stadium. Despite a superior performance in the second half, the team was reduced to ten players after Ignacio Sabatini’s expulsion. Riestra was close to scoring, but a goal from Antony Alonso was ruled out for offside in the final play of the match.
As the tournament progresses, Instituto presents itself as the leader of Zone A, facing Talleres, which is trying to halt its rival’s momentum at the Monumental de Alta Córdoba. Both teams are looking to maximize their playoff chances, with Instituto being the team with the most victories this season. This classic is not only important for the standings but also has emotional significance for the fans.
