Hernán Galíndez stood out as the key figure in Huracán’s 2-1 victory over River Plate at the Monumental stadium. The 39-year-old goalkeeper made impressive saves that were crucial to maintaining the result and shared his thoughts after the match.
“We were coming off a win against Racing at home and we knew we were heading to one of the toughest stadiums in the country,” Galíndez noted in his analysis. The Globo player emphasized that the team’s plan was to limit River’s impact, acknowledging that Huracán had little ball possession, a situation that displeases coach Diego Martínez. “I don’t like to say it, but sometimes you have to win no matter what. Today we were winning, they equalized, and we had the strength to keep going. Blondel gifted us the second goal, it was his birthday a couple of days ago, so it made for a nice present,” he added.
Regarding his impressive save against Ángel Correa from a free kick at the end of the first half, Galíndez confessed: “When I saw it coming I thought it was a goal. I tried to exert force, and the ball hit my palm. I ended up tangled up, and I think the save looked nice.”
The goalkeeper, who participated in the last World Cup with the Ecuador national team and had contemplated his future, also addressed the potential arrival of Marcelo Gallardo to La Tri. “I will keep (what I discussed with Muñeco) to myself, but the truth is I am very happy to continue being part of the national team. I had said at one point that I thought it was over, but talking with my wife and kids, I said that if Ecuador needed me, I would be available. It will be a long trip, but I will enjoy it because being in the national team is the most important thing that will always happen to me and as long as it lasts, I will savor it,” he concluded.
Although Marcelo Gallardo has not yet announced the list of call-ups, it is expected that Galíndez will be part of the Ecuadorian squad, which is preparing for a three-match tour in Asia, facing South Korea, Japan, and an opponent yet to be determined, which could be Panama or New Zealand.
