Boca Juniors Takes Lead Against São Paulo in Copa Sudamericana Quarterfinals

Boca Juniors opened the scoring in the second half of their Copa Sudamericana quarterfinal match against São Paulo in Brazil.

The goal came from Leandro Lozano, who found himself in a surprising position in the opponent’s area to break the deadlock at the historic Morumbi Stadium. Coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena’s team established their presence in Brazil, demonstrating authority and controlling the match play to deserve the advantage.

At the 60-minute mark, Santiago Ascacibar’s pressing paid off when he passed the ball to Leonel Flores. Flores delivered a precise pass to Lozano, who received it and finished within the area with a left-footed strike that overcame goalkeeper Rafael’s defense. This goal provided peace of mind for the Ribera team while silencing the majority of local fans, although the 2,000 visiting supporters made their presence heard during the Copa matchup.

São Paulo temporarily equalized shortly after, but the goal was disallowed for offside following a VAR review. In the closing moments, the Tricolor finally found the back of the net after a free kick, with Domingos Duarte outjumping Facundo Herrera to score with a header. The match remains ongoing…
