Atlético Madrid files complaint against Barcelona over Julián Álvarez case

Atlético de Madrid anuncia denuncia contra Barcelona por el caso Julián Álvarez Atlético de Madrid anuncia denuncia contra Barcelona por el caso Julián Álvarez

Atlético Madrid has taken a firm stance regarding recent statements made by Julián Álvarez and FC Barcelona’s attitude toward his potential transfer. Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, the club’s CEO, has expressed his discontent and announced legal action against the Catalan club.

The tension between Atlético Madrid and Barcelona escalated after Julián Álvarez, Atlético’s forward, stated after a World Cup match that “the best for everyone is a transfer.” Despite having a contract with Atlético Madrid until June 30, 2030, these statements have ignited unrest within the rojiblanco club’s management. Gil Marín lamented that the player chose a moment of significant media relevance to make such claims, pointing out that “it wasn’t the day to make those statements.”

The executive also emphasized that the player’s intention to seek other opportunities had been discussed previously, but reaffirmed the club’s stance: “Atleti does not want to transfer its rights.” Gil Marín highlighted Álvarez’s quality and the player’s importance to the team.

Regarding Barcelona’s interest, Gil Marín was very critical, stating that “Barcelona disrespects us, they think they can belittle us.” He accused the Catalan club of lying to all parties involved, including the player and the fans. He also recalled that this is not the first time Barcelona has acted in this manner.

In light of this situation, Atlético Madrid has decided to file a formal complaint with FIFA, arguing that Barcelona has negotiated with Julián Álvarez while his contract is still in effect. “Our responsibility is to defend Atlético Madrid’s interests,” Gil Marín stated about the legal steps to be taken.

Julián Álvarez joined Atlético Madrid two seasons ago from Manchester City and has been key to the team, playing 106 matches and scoring 49 goals. The club has been clear in stating that the forward is not for sale and pointed out the existence of a release clause of 500 million euros, underscoring his value within the squad. The firmness of Atlético’s management remains in the face of Barcelona’s maneuvers, while Álvarez’s future awaits resolutions in this matter.
