Peru continues its participation in the 2026 South American Volleyball Championship following its opening match against Argentina. Today, the Peruvian team will face Brazil, aiming for qualification for the 2027 World Cup in the United States and Canada, as well as the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
The team, coached by Antonio Rizola, will compete at the Maracanazinho in Rio de Janeiro. With the pressure of qualifying for the World Cup after 16 years, fans expect a strong performance from the Peruvian team.
The match between Peru and Brazil is scheduled for today, Wednesday, September 9. The start time will be at 18:00 in Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia. In Venezuela, Bolivia, and the United States (Miami), the match will begin at 19:00, while in Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, and Uruguay it will be at 20:00. Mexico will be able to follow it at 17:00.
The tournament brings together six countries competing in a round-robin format. The country that finishes in first place will secure its qualification for the Olympic Games, and the top three in the standings will qualify for the next World Cup.
The match will be broadcasted by Latina TV on channels 2 and 702 in high definition. The team will seek to qualify for both the World Cup and the Olympic Games, with the following roster: setters Yadhira Anchante and Lucía Magallanes; attackers Aixa Vigil, Daniela Muñoz, Alondra Alarcón, Sandra Ostos, Kiara Montes, and Brenda Lobatón; middle blockers Coraima Gómez, Claudia Palza, and Saskya Silvano; and liberos Mirian Patiño, Rachell Hidalgo, and Andrea Villegas.
The competition will determine the spots for the 2027 World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, with a total of three spots available for the World Cup and one for the Olympic event. Peru must finish in the top three positions to secure its place in the World Cup, while the first position will guarantee qualification for Los Angeles 2028.
