Gaby Pérez del Solar participated in a national podcast where she discussed the current situation of the Peruvian volleyball team and its participation in the 2026 South American Championship, a key tournament for World Cup qualification.
The former volleyball player expressed that she has not closely followed the latest activities of the team coached by Antonio Rizola. “Well, I’m being honest. The only thing I see is social media regarding the selection. I have followed the league more because last year I also saw some matches of the selection, I believe, but from girls aged 17, 18 years.”
Pérez del Solar mentioned that she recognizes several players from the current team due to their performances in the Peruvian Volleyball League. “I don’t have much information about this selection, but I do know, not by name, the players who play because they all play in the league, right?”. Regarding Peru’s chances of qualifying for the World Cup, she highlighted that it will be a considerable challenge due to competition from teams like Argentina, Brazil, and Colombia. “It’s definitely difficult. It’s going to be tough because you have Argentina, Brazil, and Colombia. But we must not lose hope. We have to give it our all, do everything we can. It will be difficult for Peru to qualify, but at least let them play with enthusiasm and dignity.”
The South American Volleyball Confederation (CSV) published the new schedule for the Peruvian team, which includes changes in the times of some matches. The updated program is as follows: Date 1: Peru vs Argentina (Tuesday, September 8 / 15:00 hours in Peru / Maracanãzinho), Date 2: Peru vs Brazil (Wednesday, September 9 / 18:00 hours in Peru / Maracanãzinho), Date 3: Peru vs Venezuela (Thursday, September 10 / 15:00 hours in Peru / Maracanãzinho), Date 4: Peru vs Colombia (Saturday, September 12 / 14:30 hours in Peru / Maracanãzinho) and Date 5: Peru vs Chile (Sunday, September 13 / 13:00 hours in Peru / Maracanãzinho).
