On Saturday, September 5, Universitario de Deportes faced Comerciantes Unidos in the 8th round of the 2026 Clausura Tournament of Liga 1. The ‘crema’ team equalized the score at the start of the second half with a goal from César Inga, but Comerciantes Unidos regained the lead with a header from Flavio Alcedo.
Alcedo’s goal came in the 53rd minute of the match, just after Universitario had equalized. Comerciantes Unidos responded swiftly to the action, earning a corner kick executed by Rodrigo Vilca from the area near the western stands. The delivery went to the near post, where Flavio Alcedo anticipated the Universitario defense and connected with his head, redirecting the ball and surpassing goalkeeper Diego Romero, who was on the goal line.
Although Caín Fara was marking Alcedo and Alex Valera, positioned at the post, could have prevented the goal, the defender managed to give Comerciantes Unidos a new lead at the Monumental stadium in Ate. In contrast to the first goal, the celebrations of the Cutervo team were measured, given there was still time left for the match against the reigning three-time champion of Peruvian football.
At the start of the match, Comerciantes Unidos surprised ‘U’ by scoring the first goal thanks to Jhon Jairo Sánchez, who took advantage of a mistake in the home defense to finish crosswise against Diego Romero. On the other hand, in the 50th minute, César Inga scored for Universitario with a powerful shot after receiving a pass from Jairo Concha, temporarily restoring the equality.
The draw lasted little, as in the 81st minute, VAR determined a foul inside Universitario’s area, leading the referee to award a penalty to ‘U’, which was executed by Gianluca Lapadula. With a powerful shot, Lapadula made it 2-2 at the Monumental.
In the next round, Universitario will face Alianza Lima, while Comerciantes Unidos will measure up against Sport Huancayo, both matches scheduled for September 12.
