Rafa Márquez has announced his first call-up for the Mexican National Team, including Germán Berterame, who returns to the squad after a period of absence. Berterame will be part of the team for the scheduled friendly matches in September and October against Colombia, Peru, the United States, and Chile.
Berterame’s inclusion in the list has generated interest, given that the naturalized Mexican forward had not been called up recently. Despite failing to secure a spot on the team for the 2026 World Cup under Javier Aguirre’s management, Berterame has focused on his performance in MLS with Inter Miami. During the 2026 season, the player from Villa María, Argentina, has had a performance marked by a lack of goals, although Márquez has considered him once again for the process.
Germán Berterame’s last call-up was in March 2026, when he participated in the inaugural match at the remodeled Estadio Azteca, playing 30 minutes against Portugal. He made his debut with the Mexican National Team in October 2024 and was accompanied by Javier Aguirre in his naturalization process. However, he was not included in subsequent call-ups until the recent call by Rafa Márquez.
In the current MLS season, Berterame has achieved a total of 7 goals and 5 assists, standing out in 19 of the 22 matches he has played as a starter.
Márquez’s first call-up includes a total of 30 players, with a diverse selection from goalkeepers to forwards, reflecting his vision for the future of the Mexican National Team.
