Deportivo Garcilaso has solidified its position as leader of the Liga 1 Clausura Tournament 2026 after defeating Atlético Grau 4-2 in Cusco. With this victory, the team accumulates 19 points, two more than Universitario de Deportes, while Atlético Grau remains in ninth place with 13 points.
The match corresponding to the eighth round began with notable dominance from the home team under the direction of Lisandro Greppo. From the very first moment, Deportivo Garcilaso took control of the ball, creating dangerous opportunities against Atlético Grau’s defense, which struggled to repel the attacks. The only clear chance for the visiting team came from Raúl Ruidíaz, who failed to convert from a favorable position.
The effort of the home team was rewarded in the 30th minute. Facundo Castelli assisted Beto Da Silva, who, after positioning himself, launched a cross shot that goalkeeper Patricio Álvarez could not stop, thus opening the scoring. Deportivo Garcilaso managed the lead and went into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.
In the second half, the home team maintained its momentum and found the second goal in the 57th minute. Facundo Castelli, after a disallowed attempt in the first half, executed a powerful shot from outside the area, leaving the opposing goalkeeper with no options. Just eleven minutes later, a penalty awarded to Deportivo Garcilaso was converted by Agustín González, who sealed the score at 3-0.
Despite the disadvantage, Atlético Grau responded. Paraguayan forward Adrián Fernández narrowed the gap with a header in the 75th minute and, five minutes later, scored again, making it 3-2. This created a tense atmosphere, with the visitors looking for an equalizer.
However, in the 89th minute, Agustín González appeared again, taking a shot that ended up in the back of the net, securing a 4-2 victory for his team and completing a brace. With these three points, Deportivo Garcilaso distances itself from Universitario de Deportes and approaches the next match with good morale after defeating Alianza Lima in their previous encounter. In contrast, Atlético Grau moves further away from the positions that allow access to international competitions, after failing to maintain the good performance shown in their previous victory over FBC Melgar.
The next challenge for Deportivo Garcilaso will be against Sport Boys in Callao, while Atlético Grau will host Alianza Atlético in La Matanza.
