Carlos Fernando Navarro Montoya stated that Sebastián Villa is among the two or three best forwards in Argentine football and emphasized the importance of the Colombian regaining prominence at Boca Juniors.
The former Boca goalkeeper, who had a notable career at the club between 1988 and 1996, addressed issues related to Villa’s recent performance. In his last matches, the Colombian forward has contributed with one goal and three assists, reaching a total of 30 goals wearing the Boca Juniors shirt.
Navarro Montoya analyzed Villa’s adaptation process, as he now competes in a team with more offensive options after being a standout player at Independiente Rivadavia in Mendoza. “For me, Villa is one of the two or three best forwards in Argentine football,” he declared in an interview, adding that the Colombian needs to adapt to the new context at Boca.
Navarro also highlighted that the responsibility does not solely fall on Villa, suggesting that his teammates need to look for him more, given his positioning on the field. “He is a quality reinforcement,” he concluded regarding his current performance.
As for Álvaro Montero, Navarro Montoya referred to the adaptation of the Colombian goalkeeper, who has played eight matches in the Argentine Primera División and four in the Copa Sudamericana since joining the club. According to him, the goalkeeper’s position at Boca is under constant scrutiny. “The Boca goalkeeper is exposed to this. It is a position of great relevance,” he indicated.
Montero, 31 years old and 2.01 meters tall, has started his career at Boca with performances that have allowed him to remain a starter. However, Navarro Montoya emphasized that consolidating in the team requires time and reducing mistakes in a demanding environment. “He is entering an unknown and highly populated world,” he stated.
Finally, he noted the physical characteristics of tall goalkeepers, who may face difficulties in certain actions. “He has a lot of height and both positive and negative aspects that he needs to work on to improve,” he concluded about Montero’s challenge with the Boca jersey.
