Franco Colapinto, a 23-year-old Argentine driver, was visibly emotional after his performance in the Italian Grand Prix, where he finished ninth following a remarkable comeback.
The event, held at the historic Monza circuit, saw Colapinto start from sixteenth position but manage to advance to third place before being caught in a mistake that relegated him to lower positions. Despite an incident that caused him to lose 12 places, the driver did not give up and ended up scoring important points by finishing ninth, behind Arvid Lindblad’s Racing Bulls, who finished eighth.
During the post-race press conference, Colapinto expressed both frustration and pride. “A tough race. Very frustrating. I had a great opportunity and did not take it. I’m sad about that. A great race and a serious mistake. I squandered a great opportunity for myself and for the team. Learn from this,” he said, visibly emotional.
On his social media, Colapinto shared a deep message reflecting on the race. He highlighted his pride in the team’s performance over the weekend and revealed the importance of getting back up and continuing to work: “A very hard day for what it could have been… We get up tomorrow with renewed hope to keep working,” he wrote.
The incident he mentioned regarding the “floor that he didn’t want anymore” refers to mechanical damage to the car’s floor, which affected the vehicle’s performance in the final stages of the race. Despite this setback, the weekend in Italy was significant for the Alpine team, with Pierre Gasly achieving pole position, marking a milestone for the team.
Flavio Briatore, Alpine’s executive advisor, publicly supported Colapinto, stating that he drove brilliantly while making up positions. The organization also dedicated a social media post praising his effort. On the other hand, driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli became the champion of the Italian Grand Prix, becoming the first Italian to win at Monza since 1966. The next Formula 1 race will be the Spanish Grand Prix at the new street circuit Madring in Madrid, scheduled from September 11 to 13 at 10:00 (Argentine time).
