September transforms the coast of Río Negro into an ideal destination for nature and adventure lovers.
During this month, the San Matías Gulf becomes a remarkable spot for whale, dolphin, penguin, and sea lion watching in their natural habitat. The calm waters allow visitors to enjoy various activities related to marine wildlife from locations such as Viedma, El Cóndor, Las Grutas, San Antonio Oeste, Puerto San Antonio Este, Punta Colorada, and Playas Doradas.
For travelers coming from Buenos Aires, the flight route to Viedma offers six weekly flights, and Aerolíneas Argentinas passengers can take advantage of discounts on various services by presenting their boarding pass.
This season marks a highlight for spotting the southern right whale, a species considered a Natural Monument. The excursions, which last approximately two and a half hours, also allow for the observation of dolphins and sea lions from Las Grutas, Puerto San Antonio Este, and Punta Colorada.
Furthermore, the Punta Bermeja Provincial Reserve, located near Viedma, is home to a population of over 4,000 single-seal sea lions, visible from viewing platforms on the cliffs. To the south, Playas Doradas offers the opportunity to see whales, orcas, dolphins, and penguins, as well as boat trips to the Islote Lobos National Park, Argentina’s first marine protected area.
The underwater caves of Las Grutas, located in the San Matías Gulf, provide an internationally renowned diving experience.
