PawFindr is presented as a social network dedicated to the collective search for pets. Users who lose their animals can upload photos or videos, describe their characteristics, and publish a notice on the platform. The application sends notifications to those nearby the location associated with the post. “Those who are near your post receive a notification,” commented Vilca Romero in a recent interview.
Geolocation is a fundamental element in PawFindr, as it allows automatic retrieval of the precise location of the user making the post, although this can be modified. This associates the notice with a specific area, notifying other nearby users about the situation so they can help identify the animal.
Additionally, the system allows users to register sightings of animals that might be lost. Individuals can take a photo and report the pet as “seen on the street,” making it easier for the original owner to locate their animal more quickly.
The tool includes a search function that enables users to find matches between lost pets and available reports on the platform, selecting a radius of kilometers to review notices that resemble their own. “This helps the owner locate it faster as well,” explained Vilca Romero about the search process.
PawFindr also features a section dedicated to adoption, where users can post to give a pet up for adoption or look for a new friend. “Animals need a home,” the creator emphasized.
The application includes options for receiving donations and promoting sponsors, with the intention of keeping the platform non-profit and improving its tools. Vilca Romero mentioned that among the suggestions from users is the inclusion of artificial intelligence for pet recognition, a possibility that is still under consideration.
