The production by Infobae follows the line of previous works such as “May 25, 1810” and “The Liberator,” highlighting the importance of education in Sarmiento’s life. In this piece, set in September 1888, Sarmiento, at the age of 77, finds himself in Asunción, obsessed with his mission to teach reading and writing. Despite his frailty, he remains committed to education, ensuring that the workers repairing his house complete their workbooks.
Through letters written to his daughter Ana Faustina, who cares for him and shares his life, the short unfolds over a single afternoon, offering an intimate and human perspective of Sarmiento, outside of moments of great power. The theme focuses on his educational legacy and his personal suffering, including the grief over the death of his son Dominguito in the Battle of Curupaytí and his relationship with Ana Faustina.
Juan Leyrado, who has played Sarmiento in previous theatrical works, delivers a portrayal of an elderly man without nostalgia, while Carla Peterson embodies Faustina, emphasizing her role as a caregiver who also confronts her father in his convictions.
The short employs a production method that combines voice recording and visuals generated by Artificial Intelligence, with historical consultation from Adrián Pignatelli. The script was written by Marcelo Camaño, and all figures and data have been verified prior to their inclusion.
