The traditional cuisine of the State of Mexico will arrive at La Marquesa during the First Mexiquense Gastronomic Encounter “Knowledge and Flavors of My Land,” which will take place on September 5 and 6. This event will bring together 56 traditional cooks who will share their recipes and ingredients.
The celebration, organized by the Government of the State of Mexico through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, will be held at the Museum of the Battle of the Monte de las Cruces. The event is free to enter, making it an attractive option for those looking for cultural and gastronomic activities over the weekend.
Among the featured dishes at the event will be preparations based on corn and other recipes that are part of Mexiquense culinary identity. Attendees will be able to taste pepeto, obispo, green chorizo, and the traditional tamal de ollita from Ocoyoacac, as well as drinks like masa atole, tecuí, and mezcal.
The encounter will also feature representatives from the five indigenous peoples of the State of Mexico: Mazahua, Tlahuica, Matlatzinca, Otomí, and Nahua. They will share knowledge about their customs, ingredients, and culinary expressions, allowing visitors to understand the processes and traditions behind each dish.
In addition to the gastronomic offerings, there will be a Producers Pavilion where the Ministry of Agriculture will present products and utensils related to traditional cooking in the region. There will also be a Craft Pavilion where artisans will showcase pieces made with representative techniques from their communities, highlighting the cultural diversity of the State of Mexico.
The program will include outdoor activities such as a five-kilometer hiking route that will start on Saturday, September 5, at 8:00 AM from the Hidalgo, Allende, and Jiménez monument. It is aimed at people over 14 years old and will allow participants to enjoy the natural surroundings of the area.
Attendees will also be able to appreciate the photographic exhibition “Son of Corn” and explore the book “Five Traditional Mexiquense Knowledges,” as well as learn about experiences related to the Magical Towns corridor of the State of Mexico. The Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEMéx), the CUI, and El Colegio Mexiquense will participate in activities on Sunday, September 6, focused on sharing knowledge about the gastronomy and traditions of the region.
With this event, the Government of the State of Mexico aims to bring its culinary and cultural wealth closer to new generations, contributing to the preservation of knowledge, recipes, and traditions that are part of Mexiquense identity.
