Sporting Cristal hosted Los Chankas in a home match during the eighth round of the 2026 Liga 1’s Torneo Clausura.
From the outset, Sporting Cristal pushed forward, applying pressure in the opposing half to create scoring opportunities. Santiago González opened the scoring with a goal following a rebound in the opponent’s area, finding the net just 11 minutes into the match. Coach Roberto Mosquera’s side had already made several attempts to attack the ‘guerreros’, signaling the imminent threat.
The sequence leading to the goal began with Oshiro Takeuchi advancing the ball from the right, passing it back to Carlos Pimienta. Pimienta then relayed it to David Gonzáles. After a misplay from Gonzáles, the ball was picked up by Ayrthon Quintana, but as he lost possession, Leandro Sosa supported the play by passing to Yoshimar Yotún. Yotún returned the ball to Sosa, who then set up González on the right flank.
González skillfully maneuvered past Quintana, overcoming Franco Torres as he moved toward the center where Michael Hoyos was positioned. Although the U.S.-Argentine forward stumbled, the ball fortuitously landed at González’s feet. He executed a low shot with his left foot that proved too difficult for goalkeeper Hairo Camacho to stop.
This match illustrates the competitive nature of the Liga 1, where teams are keen to secure valuable points as the season progresses.
