Nearly three years after the murder of Gabriela Pérez, the trial began in Córdoba where her brother, Gustavo Herrera, is being tried as the alleged shooter who took her life during a union lunch.

The trial commenced before the Third Criminal Court and includes jurors from the public. Herrera’s defense, which maintains his innocence, has emphasized the importance of an expert report that contradicts the identification of the accused in videos presented by the prosecution. Lawyer Sebastián Lascano stated in the first hearing that his client was not the shooter, despite the visual evidence against him.

The attorney argued that the evidence from an interdisciplinary expert report shows significant differences in physical characteristics that call Herrera’s involvement into question. Additionally, the lawyer highlighted that his client was at home at the time of the attack, a version supported by his partner’s testimony. “Our role as defenders is to exercise the right to defense,” Lascano commented before the court.

Regarding union connections, the lawyer emphasized that Herrera is not linked to any union or criminal group, although he acknowledged the existence of a union conflict pointed out by leader Sergio Fittipaldi of Soelsac. This leader stated that tensions have arisen due to attempts by the Surrbac union to control Soelsac, including the pursuit of power over groups of barra bravas and drug trafficking in Córdoba.

Gabriela’s mother, Liliana, has reported being prevented from entering the hearings along with other family members. In an interview, she expressed her concern over the lack of information and her desire for justice. On the other hand, her sister Gisela suggested that the reason for their exclusion may be their potential summons as witnesses due to their relationship with the victim.

The murder of Gabriela occurred on September 9, during a Soelsac lunch at the Club Yapeyú, when shots were heard from outside, severely wounding the woman. The identification of the shooter was made through security cameras, which recorded a person wearing a blue sweatshirt and black vest, whose movements proved crucial for the investigation.

Subsequently, an investigation was launched that led to the arrest of Gustavo Herrera at the end of October, after a series of reports emerged among the involved unions.
