Three siblings experienced moments of anguish in San Juan de Miraflores when one of them, a seven-year-old boy, was hit by a mototaxi while attempting to cross a road to his school. The minor suffered multiple traumas and moderate skull injury and, although he is stable in a nearby hospital, authorities continue to investigate the incident.
The accident occurred on Raimondi Avenue while the boy was walking with his siblings to Colegio Pacífico 7208. Witnesses indicate that the minor let go of his family’s hand and ran to cross the road. One of his sisters crossed safely, but his brother was struck by the mototaxi. After the impact, the boy fainted in his brother’s arms.
Security cameras recorded the moments leading up to the accident, which will aid in the investigation. According to reports, the mototaxi driver, identified as Jordan Huamaní Siancas, 18, lost control of the vehicle after trying to dodge another car, resulting in the mototaxi overturning in the roadway. The police detained him to administer alcohol tests.
A neighbor who witnessed the incident recounted that the boy had a significant head injury and was bleeding. Residents in the area pointed out that this is not the first time a similar accident has occurred, raising concerns about road safety in the area. A witness requested the installation of a speed bump, as mototaxis have been reported to travel at high speeds in this downward stretch, putting pedestrians, especially students, at risk.
The three siblings frequently use this route to go to school, and neighbors emphasize that the lack of adequate road safety measures remains a critical issue in the community.
Authorities recommend that, in case of emergencies, contact the Emergency Mobile Care System (SAMU) at 106, the General Corps of Firefighters at 116, or the National Police of Peru at 105.
