Teacher Noemí Isabel Ríos Torres, an educator at the Higher Normal Education Institute of the State of Colima (ISENCO), was shot and killed on Wednesday, September 2, in Manzanillo, Colima, while traveling in her vehicle with her children.

The attack occurred on Avenida de las Rosas, in the Santiago Delegation. Witnesses reported that armed individuals intercepted the car where the teacher was and fired directly at her. After the aggression, the perpetrators fled the scene, while the teacher died inside the vehicle.

The crime has caused great shock among the educational community of Manzanillo, including students, teachers, alumni, and parents of ISENCO. The institution, in a statement, expressed its rejection of violence and called on the school community to manifest peacefully to demand clarification of the case. They also demanded that the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Colima (FGE) conduct an immediate investigation.

The severity of the attack is notable, given that the teacher was attacked in the presence of her children, which has generated concern within the educational sector that demands authorities carry out a thorough investigation.

The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Colima has begun an investigation file to clarify the homicide, confirming that the victim was attacked while inside her vehicle. Personnel from the Attorney General’s Office is on the scene processing the crime scene and gathering evidence and testimonies.

Investigators and the Public Ministry are carrying out proceedings to determine the circumstances of the attack and the escape route of the aggressors. The Attorney General’s Office has expressed its commitment to work on the case and apply the corresponding sanctions under the law.

As the investigations progress, the ISENCO community continues to call for a peaceful demonstration to seek justice for the murder of Noemí Ríos Torres. This tragic event once again highlights the issue of violence against women in the region, while emphasizing the urgent need for authorities to ensure justice in similar cases. So far, no arrests related to this crime have been reported.
