Jenny Kalindy Bolívar Guayacundo, a 40-year-old Ecuadorian student, has been missing since August 26, when she was last seen in the Pedregal de Santo Domingo neighborhood in Coyoacán, Mexico City. Her family, who resides outside of Mexico, and the Center for Research and Higher Studies in Social Anthropology (CIESAS) are seeking information about her whereabouts.
Bolívar is pursuing a PhD in History at CIESAS, where she is part of the Peninsular Unit. The Mexico City Attorney General’s Office (FGJCDMX) has issued a search alert providing details to help identify the student. It indicates that she is 1.57 meters tall and has melasma on her cheeks. The last time she was seen, she was wearing a black dress.
CIESAS has demanded an active and thorough search for Bolívar, emphasizing the need to locate her alive. On September 3, the institution released a statement directed at the authorities of Mexico City and the federal government, urging for the immediate application of specialized protocols in cases of disappearance, with a gender perspective and in accordance with the General Law on the Matter of Disappearances.
Due to the absence of Jenny’s family in the country, CIESAS has stated that it will provide “solidarity support” and demand prompt action in ministerial proceedings. It has also called on civil society, the academic community, and the media to help disseminate the official search bulletin.
The situation of women’s disappearances in Mexico is alarming. To date, 134,257 people have been documented as missing, with 29,027 of them being women. A report by Red Lupa and the Mexican Institute of Human Rights and Democracy (IMDHD) indicates that between May 2025 and May 2026, 26 out of 32 entities in the country experienced an increase in the number of disappearances of women and girls.
Currently, the search for Jenny Kalindy Bolívar continues in Mexico City, with CIESAS reiterating its request to the authorities to follow the appropriate protocols and prioritize her location.
