The Federation of War Veterans “April 2” of the Argentine Republic has expressed its support for the official announcements regarding the Malvinas issue and has requested to be part of the legislative discussion on the National Sovereignty Defense Bill.
The statement, released on Friday, is directed at the public opinion, war veterans, and Argentine citizens. The organization took a stand after the speech by the President of the Nation, stating that “the cause of the Malvinas is and must always be a central, permanent, and non-negotiable state policy that transcends any political or party circumstance”.
Furthermore, the Federation categorically reaffirmed Argentina’s rights over the Malvinas Islands, South Georgia, South Sandwich Islands, and their maritime and insular spaces. They expressed support for “any message that reaffirms this constitutional mandate”.
The organization highlighted the announcement regarding the submission of the National Sovereignty Defense Bill to Congress and the amendment of Law 26.659, which relates to the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons on the Argentine continental shelf.
The statement expresses the need to enhance legal and administrative sanctions against “foreign companies, ships, or agencies” involved in the illegitimate exploitation of resources in Argentine waters. “The defense of the South Atlantic requires strict legal tools and effective compliance,” asserted the Federation.
They also valued the decision to increase logistical and military presence in Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica, and the South Atlantic Islands, noting that the defense of sovereignty requires action at the country’s maritime borders. They called for parliamentary debate to include the participation of veterans of the 1982 war.
The entity considered a “united national front” crucial for protecting Argentine sovereignty, insisting that the experience of war veterans must play an important role in legislative proceedings and in the formulation of defense policies.
The statement also addressed the living conditions of former combatants and their families, considering that any measure regarding the South Atlantic must honor the memory of those who fell and ensure comprehensive care for veterans. “The defense of our national territory is inseparable from the dignity of those who fought for it,” concluded the entity, reiterating that “the Malvinas were, are, and will be Argentine. The homeland is non-negotiable; memory is honored, and sovereignty is defended”.
