The Cambio Radical party announced its entry into the coalition of President Abelardo de la Espriella’s government, formally expressing its support on September 3, 2026, before the National Electoral Council.
The party, led by former senator Fuad Char and Enrique Vargas Lleras, expressed its intention to contribute to the country’s recovery and strengthen institutions. The decision was presented alongside the party’s representatives in the Senate and the House of Representatives, where Cambio Radical has a total of 19 congress members, seven in the upper house and 12 in the lower house.
In its statement, Cambio Radical declared that it will support the Executive in “the reforms, initiatives, and projects” that it considers essential to address the needs of Colombians. Among its priorities are the recovery of security, economic revival, job creation, strengthening the healthcare system, and improving the well-being of families.
Despite joining the government, the party emphasized that it will maintain its own margin in the legislative process. “At the same time, the Party will maintain an ambitious and independent legislative agenda, focused on national priorities and defending the interests of Colombians,” they highlighted.
Moreover, Cambio Radical identified the generation of opportunities for women and youth, economic growth, security, health recovery, and the construction of a more equitable country as the pillars of its work in Congress.
