The Real Racing Club de España has raised 22.908,48 euros, equivalent to 83.927.127 Colombian pesos, to assist those affected by the earthquake that occurred on August 10 in Colombia, which left nearly 350 dead. The donation will be allocated to the municipality of La Victoria, the birthplace of former player Gustavo Puerta.
The campaign called ‘El Racing con Colombia’ has recorded a significant response from fans, with direct donations reaching 7.636,16 euros. Additionally, the Real Racing Club Foundation will contribute double the amount raised, thus quadrupling the total to over 23.000 euros (84.278.900 Colombian pesos). The foundation has expressed its gratitude to those who participated in this initiative, which began the same day as the earthquake, noting that the funds will be used for the reconstruction of La Victoria and the region of Valle del Cauca.
In a recent development in his career, Gustavo Puerta has been signed by Olympiacos, being officially presented as the new player of the Greek club on Wednesday, following his departure from Racing de Santander. The transfer was finalized for approximately 20 million euros, an amount corresponding to the buyout clause stipulated in his contract with the Spanish team, where he achieved promotion to Spain’s First Division the previous season.
The 23-year-old midfielder has had a significant journey in his career, starting at Bogotá FC, then moving to Bayer Leverkusen, followed by loans to Nürnberg and Hull City, before finally establishing himself at Racing. His performance over the last year led to his call-up to the Colombian national team, where he has been a starter in the North American World Cup 2026.
“It is a pleasure for me to come to such a big club as Olympiacos, a club with a tremendous history, full of titles and players who have passed through here and have had an incredible career. It is a pleasure for me to be here,” Puerta stated during his presentation.
In his first year at Racing de Santander, Puerta recorded three goals and one assist in 33 matches, contributing to the club’s promotion to the top tier of Spanish football, achieving a total of 34 matches in which he had the opportunity to debut in LaLiga before his recent transfer.
