A 90-year-old woman was attacked while walking along Brighton Beach Avenue in Brooklyn when a man threw a garbage can filled with trash at her. The incident occurred on Monday, August 31, around 9:45 AM, and the police are searching for the attacker.
The assault took place in front of 501 Brighton Beach Avenue, according to the New York City Police Department (NYPD). Security camera footage showed the suspect exiting the Brighton Beach subway station and, almost immediately, grabbing the container from the sidewalk. This object, which contained waste, was thrown at the woman as she walked.
The impact caused the elderly woman to fall to the pavement, after which the attacker fled the scene. Residents who witnessed the attack rushed to her aid before emergency services arrived.
The NYPD has released a photograph of the suspect, who is described as an individual wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and white sneakers at the time of the attack. Following the incident, the man fled in an unknown direction and has not yet been located.
Authorities have indicated that there is no evidence suggesting any prior relationship between the victim and the suspect, nor that the attack was directed at a specific group. The woman was taken to a hospital, where her condition was stabilized and she was diagnosed with a hip fracture.
