Authorities have captured Daniel Bravo Arias, known by the alias La Puerca, who is a leader of the Autodefensas Conquistadores de la Sierra Nevada (Acsn). His arrest took place in Puerto Nuevo, Guachaca, Santa Marta, following the reactivation of arrest warrants by the Attorney General’s Office.
The operation was carried out by the Metropolitan Police of Santa Marta, the Gaula, and the National Army of Colombia. Bravo Arias was among the most wanted individuals in Magdalena, with rewards of up to $20 million for information on his whereabouts. The governor of Magdalena, Margarita Guerra, described this capture as a “serious blow against organized crime in Magdalena” and reaffirmed the commitment of law enforcement in the fight against crime.
Daniel Bravo Arias has been a priority target for the Public Force due to his background with the Autodefensas Conquistadores de la Sierra Nevada. According to reports, he was responsible for the security of the Troncal del Caribe, a critical corridor for illegal activities including drug trafficking and smuggling. Additionally, he is being investigated for his involvement in extortion of merchants and drug distribution.
His participation in peace talks with the government of Gustavo Petro, where he acted as a spokesperson for the Acsn, had resulted in the suspension of the judicial order against him. However, under the administration of Abelardo de la Espriella, the dialogue concluded and arrest warrants were reactivated, which led to the detention of Bravo Arias, making him the first spokesperson captured after this change in policy. This arrest was also part of a broader effort that includes the reactivation of arrest warrants against 46 former members of various armed structures.
