The T-MEC negotiations among Mexico, the United States, and Canada could conclude in December 2026, although the process faces significant challenges, particularly with Canada.

During the binational convention, Larry Rubin, president of the American Society Mexico (AMSOC), stated that negotiations between Mexico and the United States are progressing positively. However, he expressed concern about the trade relationship with Canada, as the latest negotiation round resulted in the imposition of reciprocal tariffs.

Rubin indicated: “We expect that the Canadian government, under Prime Minister Carney, will dedicate itself to negotiating full partnership in the T-MEC, so that the T-MEC can be successfully concluded by the end of this year.” Despite the tensions, he emphasized the confidence that AMSOC holds in the capabilities of the Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, and Undersecretary Luis Rosendo Gutiérrez Romano, who lead the working groups with their U.S. counterparts.

The current context reflects the complexity of trade negotiations in the region, where cooperation among these three countries is essential for economic stability and bilateral and multilateral relations.
