Adelante Andalucía has denounced the recent tender conducted by the Junta, amounting to over €13 million, aimed at privatizing mammography services for breast cancer screening over four years, with the option of an additional year.
This service, intended for the early detection of breast cancer through mammograms performed in accredited mobile diagnostic units, has been criticized by the Andalusian political group, which believes that these actions reflect the Partido Popular’s lack of commitment to the health of Andalusian women and to public healthcare.
Adelante Andalucía has also emphasized that it has been almost a year since the scandal related to breast cancer screenings in Andalusia, an event for which responsibility has yet to be established. Javier Montes, a parliamentarian from the group, has pointed out that Andalusian women continue to lack information regarding the source of the error, the number of affected individuals, and the potential fatal consequences of this situation.
Montes has criticized the president of the Junta, Juanma Moreno (PP-A), who has stated on several occasions that there were no privatized mammograms, a claim he considers false, given that private company trucks have been observed conducting mammograms in Seville. According to the deputy, the new tender is a clear indicator of the PP’s strategy to systematize privatizations in public health services.
In this context, Adelante has also reminded that in April of this year, their group presented a bill against cancer, which will be developed soon. This proposal seeks not only to reinforce the public health system and research but also to establish comprehensive support measures for patients and their families, as well as maximum timelines for healthcare provision.
Montes concluded by stating that Adelante Andalucía will continue to oppose privatizations and is working on a law that guarantees early diagnosis and treatment through public health at 100%.
