Shakira and her collaboration with Burna Boy, titled ‘Dai Dai’, have made a mark on global music during the summer of 2026, according to Spotify. The song, which was the official anthem of the 2026 World Cup, managed to rise to the top of music charts worldwide.
Spotify announced on September 3 its list of the five most impactful songs of the summer in the Northern Hemisphere. ‘Dai Dai’ topped global streams, maintaining the number one spot for 37 days and reaching the top in 17 countries, including Switzerland, Germany, and Portugal.
Released on May 15 by Sony Latin, ‘Dai Dai’ mixes afrobeats with Latin pop and features lyrics in several languages: English, Spanish, Italian, French, and Japanese. Its title comes from the Italian expression that translates to ‘come on, come on’, and includes mentions of iconic figures like Pelé, Maradona, and Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as references to the participating countries in the tournament.
The largest surge in streams occurred on July 20, the day after the World Cup final, when the music video for ‘Dai Dai’ became the most viewed of the season. The song’s success nearly doubled Burna Boy’s monthly audience on Spotify, while Shakira surpassed 100 million monthly listeners in July.
‘Dai Dai’ marks Shakira’s fourth World Cup anthem, having previously participated with ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ in 2006, ‘Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)’ in 2010, and ‘Dare (La La La)’ in 2014. The song was co-written alongside Jon Bellion, Ed Sheeran, and Burna Boy, among others.
Other standout songs of the summer include ‘hate that i made you love me’ by Ariana Grande, which topped the streams, and ‘Choosin’ Texas’ by Ella Langley, which dominated in the United States. Additionally, ‘Dai Dai’ became the most streamed song by a Colombian artist outside of the country in the first half of 2026, surpassing 385 million global listens.
The popularity of ‘Dai Dai’ was also reflected in its ascent to number one on the UK streaming chart, marking a significant achievement for Shakira in that market.
