The Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, will gather his deputies, senators, and MEPs in Congress on Monday to kick off the new political season. This period begins amid the crisis in Ceuta and the Government’s intention to present the 2027 Budget.
Sánchez attended an extraordinary Plenary session in Congress on Thursday to address the crisis in Ceuta, caused by the massive entry of immigrants from Morocco on July 30 and 31. During the session, criticisms of the Executive came not only from the PP and Vox but also widely across the parliamentary spectrum. Even Sumar, the Government’s minority partner, criticized that the president’s response to the crisis was “late” and questioned the credibility of his explanation regarding Morocco.
With the aim of discussing the early presentation of the 2027 Budget, Sánchez has decided to meet with his members in Congress coinciding with the start of the ordinary session period, which will conclude before Christmas, according to Socialist sources. This new season is the prelude to 2027, a year expected to be filled with political activity, with regional and municipal elections planned for the end of May and a call for general elections still without a date.
Although Sánchez has expressed his intention to conclude the legislature in July, he has also mentioned the possibility of a “technical advance” this week, adding uncertainty to the political landscape.
