An inter-institutional operation in Guerrero led to the arrest of 71 individuals who were impersonating municipal police without being able to validate their status. The actions took place in Tlapa de Comonfort, Chilapa de Álvarez, and Atlixtac on Thursday.
From the early hours of the day, a broad mobilization of security forces took place, which included the participation of helicopters, in three locations in the High and Low Mountain regions of Guerrero. The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Guerrero confirmed the arrests on the night of the same day, indicating that among the agents involved in the operation were elements of the Secretariat of National Defense, National Guard, and State Police.
The authorities executed search warrants at the municipal police stations. In Tlapa de Comonfort, 21 individuals were apprehended who were performing functions within the corporation without being able to prove they were preventive police or traffic officers. Similarly, Simitrio Álvarez Benito, director of Mobility and Municipal Transport of Tlapa, was arrested due to an arrest warrant against him for extortion and was made available to a Criminal Trial Control Judge.
In Chilapa de Álvarez, the highest number of arrests was recorded, with 43 people detained under the same lack of accreditation as law enforcement agents. This municipality has experienced an increase in violence in recent months, with violent incidents leading to the displacement of hundreds of families. During the operation, authorities also corroborated the existence of three individuals in the holding area, which has led to additional investigations by the Public Ministry.
In the case of Atlixtac, seven individuals were arrested for similar reasons of alleged usurpation of police functions. With these arrests, the total number during the operation rose to 71, including notable figures such as the director of municipal mobility of Tlapa, who were referred to competent authorities for their statements. Investigations will continue to clarify the legal situation of those detained and any possible connection to other crimes in the area.
