A 67-year-old man was sentenced to 27 years in prison for sexual offenses committed in Tostado, Santa Fe, over more than four decades. The sentence covered cases involving 11 victims, most of whom were minors at the time of the incidents, and the possession of child sexual abuse material.
The conviction came during a trial that revealed a pattern of assaults spanning 41 years. Nine of the victims were relatives of the convicted man, while the other two were neighbors. The court, consisting of judges Gustavo Bumaguin, Cecilia Álamo, and José Boaglio, rejected the defense that attempted to declare the incidents time-barred.
The prosecution was led by prosecutor Brenda Baños, from the Gender, Family and Sexual Violence Section of the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPA). Baños emphasized the significance of the ruling, stating that “a historic conviction was issued,” noting that the court considered the crimes to be ongoing, which interrupted any possible statute of limitations on previous offenses.
The evidence presented demonstrated that the abuses began when the convicted man was 21 years old and continued until he was 62. During that time, he exploited the trust and vulnerability of his victims, who were girls. The sexual assaults took place in various locations, including his home and properties related to his work.
Baños argued that these offenses significantly disrupted the sexual development of the victims, which was crucial for the conviction. Additionally, abuses against two neighboring minors were investigated, who received money after being subjected to sexual practices. The prosecutor also recounted that the convicted man took photographs of one of these victims in the context of the abuses.
The sentence included charges related to sexual abuse and child exploitation, covering an extensive period and a significant number of victims. During the investigation, sexual abuse material was also found in the convicted man’s home, including 12 videos and 24 photographs of sexual content involving minors. These files were in his possession from October 2011 until mid-2024.
Despite the magnitude of the charges, the court did not issue a fully condemning sentence, absolving the man of a charge of promoting the prostitution of minors and another involving adults.
