Mexico and Spain have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation in digital transformation. This agreement will allow for the exchange of experiences in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and connectivity, as well as the development of joint training programs and research projects.
The memorandum was signed between the Mexican Digital Transformation and Telecommunications Agency (ATDT) and the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function of Spain, during the official visit of the Spanish minister, Óscar López Águeda. This three-day meeting includes discussions with authorities and academic and business sectors.
During the ceremony, the director of the ATDT, José Peña Merino, presented strategic initiatives in Mexico, including the Nube MX, the National Cybersecurity Plan, and the program for streamlining procedures, as well as the construction of the supercomputer Coatlicue.
The memorandum will facilitate the sharing of effective practices in areas such as data centers and connectivity, application of artificial intelligence in public services, and cybersecurity. It will also promote collaboration with companies, academic institutions, and research centers.
Óscar López Águeda emphasized that Spain’s digital strategy focuses on four pillars: businesses, industry, rights, and training, and includes regulatory updates and training programs in collaboration with industry and the private sector.
In addition to signing the document, the Spanish minister has met with high-ranking Mexican officials, including Raquel Buenrostro and Rosaura Ruiz. His agenda also includes a visit to a Telefónica Foundation project in Mexico City and a conference on artificial intelligence at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
This cooperation memorandum is part of the preparations for the Ibero-American Digital Forum and the Ibero-American Summit, which will be held in November in Madrid, enhancing the ties between Mexico and Spain on issues of digitalization and artificial intelligence.
